Follow along to see how I turn simple materials into intentional play 🤍 Here are three easy spring fine motor activities for toddlers and preschoolers using simple materials 🌸 Petal Push Kids push flower petals (really pony beads) through clear gel into flowers to work on finger strength, hand-eye coordination, and motor planning. 🌼 Petal Press Pressing tissue paper into Play-Doh helps build grip strength, finger isolation, and hand stability. 🌺 Pom-Pom Petals Matching jumbo pom-poms to flower color cards helps support color recognition, sorting skills, and fine motor development. Simple, hands-on play like this helps kids strengthen the small muscles in their hands, which supports pre-writing skills, coordination, and hand control. Symmetrical Butterflies Today we used a blot painting technique to make beautiful symmetrical butterflies. To make these, have your kiddo paint one side of the butterfly cut out, press together, and open to reveal symmetrical butterfly wings. Dip the end of a toilet paper roll into the paint and dab it onto cardstock paper to form the shape of a rainbow. As the bubbles in the paint pop on the paper, they create a fun textured effect that makes the rainbow look extra vibrant. Activities like this support fine motor development as children control the stamping motion with the roll. It also encourages creativity, color recognition, and early art skills as children explore how different colors come together. 🐝🍯 The absolute cutest bumblebee craft to try with your kiddos! ✨Follow @lovebloomlearn for more easy play ideas! 🧚‍♀️ To recreate the activity, make honeycombs using cardboard and bubble wrap. We used a glue stick to glue the bubble wrap and painter’s tape to attach the handle. We used yellow dot stickers to make the bees! Add some paint and paper, and you’re all set. I know the way her brain is driven to play from 20 years of working as an educator. Comment BOOK if you want to find my guide to show you exactly what to leave out for the way you’re child’s brain is wired 🥰 So I used that knowledge to put out an insanely simple invitation to play, an open-ended setup that helped her ease into play without pressure. It is exactly what I share in my playbook, simple, realistic play ideas that actually help children get started. I always set up play in front of her and calmly narrate what I’m doing, like a zen CBeebies presenter who is hanging on by a thread. That way, when she moves on from the activity I started, she knows where everything is and can keep the play going in her own way. And then I stay consistent.
