This frog is so bright it looks like it’s on fire!! 😳🔥 This is Oophaga solanensis - a poison frog species endemic to the Choco region of Colombia. The Chocó Region is a lush strip of rainforest along Colombia’s Pacific coast and is famous for extreme rainfall, dense jungle, and some of the highest levels of biodiversity anywhere on the planet - including this incredible species! The colors are just so bright 🔥, and of course they are to warn predators that they’re toxic and to not eat them! #poisonfrogs #colombia #herping #dartfrogs #oophaga

La Agalychnis callidryas, conocida como rana de ojos rojos, es uno de los anfibios más icónicos de las selvas tropicales de Centroamérica. 🌿🐸 Aunque sus colores parecen una señal de peligro, en realidad son una estrategia de defensa. Durante el día duerme completamente camuflada entre las hojas verdes, pero si un depredador la molesta, abre de golpe sus brillantes ojos rojos y muestra sus patas anaranjadas y azules. Este “susto” momentáneo desorienta al atacante el tiempo suficiente para escapar. 👀✨ Habita en bosques húmedos y suele encontrarse cerca de ríos o charcas, donde deposita sus huevos en hojas que cuelgan sobre el agua. Cuando las crías nacen, caen directamente al agua para continuar su vida como renacuajos. The Crowned Jewel of the Jungle 🐸 👑 El Tesoro Coronado de la Jungla 🐸 👑 @nicolasreusens Costa Rica 🇨🇷 During the recording for our upcoming wildlife documentary our friend and guide @herping_expedition_cr found this absolute gem deep in the Costa Rican rainforest! 🌿🇨🇷 This is the Crowned Frog (Triprion spinosus), formerly known as the Coronated Treefrog. Look at those unique spiky eyelids and that pointed crown-like shape—it’s like a tiny dinosaur! So hard to spot, but so worth it. Nature is truly incredible. 🤯
