Basra is the key economic center and main logistical hub of Iraq. During our visit, we could witness its impressive development and the Dutch business contribution to that.
In our meeting with H.E. Assad al-Edani, the Governor of Basra, we exchanged views on Basra’s economic development priorities and explored future collaboration opportunities with international and Dutch companies active in the governorate.
At the newly constructed Al-Faw Grand Port, we reviewed the progress of this strategic project, including the immersed tunnel implemented by Dutch construction company Ballast Nedam. It is the first immersed tunnel of its kind in the Middle East. Discussions also covered potential upcoming large infrastructure projects and future opportunities for Dutch businesses in Iraq.
We also visit a Fugro operation. Fugro has more than 300 staff members in Iraq, using advanced technologies supporting major projects across Basra through innovative surveying, data, and geotechnical solutions.

Today, Transport Secretary @fiona.hyslop told @scotparl that Ardrossan Harbour will be brought into public ownership as part of a major package of investment in Scotland’s ferry services.
Ms Hyslop also confirmed the replacement for MV Lord of the Isles will go to competitive tender, with an order placed with the winning shipyard later this year.
Other key milestones include funding for the redevelopment of Port Ellen and the launch of procurement for the NIFS4 contract.
