5 years today… Watch for the signs and advocate for yourself! #peripartumcardiomyopathy #ppcm #PPCMAwareness #pregnancyjourney #pregnancycomplications lf Naomi Nicholls ,🫶🏻❤️ been there since the beginning girl, thank you…
Three years later and some days still feel like the moment everything changed. Peripartum cardiomyopathy (PPCM) cracked my world open. And in some ways, I’m still putting the pieces back together. Still grieving the before. Still feeling like time stopped in places others won’t ever see. But here’s what’s also true:
I didn’t stay frozen.
I turned that grief into something more.
And now, I share my story not for sympathy, but for awareness. So that you or the woman you love will recognize the signs. Ask the questions. Feel empowered to advocate for your heart. We don’t all walk away from pregnancy the same way.
And some of us are still at the restaurant.
But we’re learning to stand. And speak. And shine light in the corners. I share this not to create fear, but to replace it with knowledge. Confidence. Power. You deserve to feel safe in your body. You deserve to know the signs. Save this post to come back to. Share it with someone you love. PPCM Signs & Symptoms to Know:
• Shortness of breath (especially lying flat or during rest)
• Swelling in legs, ankles, or abdomen
• Fatigue that feels extreme or sudden
• Rapid weight gain (from fluid, not fat)
• Chest pain or heart palpitations
• Feeling like your heart is racing or fluttering
• Cough, especially at night
• Dizziness or fainting or low blood pressure Risk factors can include:
• Being pregnant over age 30
• Twin or multiple pregnancies
• Preeclampsia or high blood pressure
• African American heritage
• History of PPCM in family or self Ask questions. Know your story. Trust your body. Advocate for your heart ❤️‍🩹 Xo, Emi #PPCMawareness #chronicillness #maternalhealth #heartwarrior #heartfailure #pregnancyjourney #postpartumjourney
Now they’re calling it something different! Peripartum Cardiomyopathy (PPCM) @ppcmfund maternal mortality is preventable with early diagnosis even before pregnancy ..Support the PPCM awareness prevention. If you would like to learn more go to YouTube – PPCM FUND listen to real women PPCM Survivors that have been interviewed .,all over the world. Survivors have word patterns. WE ARE THE STUDY! We are living proof. Better than any association or medical institution you would ever do need to understand … the painful truth PPCM fund.com We are exposing bc they have been lying /hiding to and from women since the beginning of time when they’ve known about the solution the entire time. They call it rare and they call it many different things but what it is is fluid that crushes the heart. The fluid is infected, and the fluid is never diagnosed or treated as early as 10 weeks pregnant as early as before getting pregnant you could be diagnosed and treated. This prevents not just maternal mortality, but still birth. The hero voices continue to save lies with simple awareness. How dare the a$$ociations hide this life saving info because financially it doesn’t serve them ..I’ve been screaming from the rooftops since 2016. This disease is treatable & preventable. The woman can be healthy nine months prior. The NT-proBNP blood test that indicates high elevated levels of infection or if normal during pregnancy is most definitely after pregnancy. Awareness save lives. PPCM is not rare. It’s rarely diagnosed or heard of. But it’s very preventable. Maternal mortality – PPCM does not need to exist. Early diagnosis and the awareness saves lives. Six years ago today I got diagnosed with postpartum cardiomyopathy( PPCM) Only God knows the pain, the worry, the trauma and the lost I experienced. During that time being a good mother while your heart is literally breaking the hardest role I’ve ever had to play. The love and grace my children showed me was amazing. When I allow myself to think about these dark moments I remember the unconditional love and the support from my family, friends and community, the prayers, visits, meal trains and the pure moments of joy when I went from being on the heart transplant list… to no longer needing to be on that list! This journey this lesson this second chance in life is truly a blessing and I thank God for his grace and mercy every day! Friends keep going forward there’s always something to be thankful for in everyday… even if it’s waking up 🥲#cardiomyopathy#ppcmawareness #mamabarb#isurvivedmyworstdays
BNP Testing For PPCM helps identify heart strain in new or expectant mothers, enabling earlier detection of peripartum cardiomyopathy.
