What is Punctum? The lacrimal punctum is a small opening present on the medial side of both upper and lower eyelids. Each eye has two puncta → one upper, one lower. 🔬 Work / Function of Punctum 1️⃣ Drainage of Tears The main function is to drain tears from the eye surface into the lacrimal drainage system. 2️⃣ Maintains Tear Balance It helps maintain a proper tear film level by removing excess tears. 3️⃣ Pathway of Tears Tears follow this route: Punctum → Canaliculi → Lacrimal sac → Nasolacrimal duct → Nose That’s why when we cry, nose also runs 👃 🏥 Clinical Importance Blocked punctum → Epiphora (watering eyes) Punctal stenosis → Poor tear drainage Punctal plug → Intentionally inserted in dry eye patients to retain tears 📍Consult us at Jai Kamal Eye Hospital for proper evaluation of watering or dry eyes.@jaikamaleyehospital #jaikamaleyehospital #punctum #dryeye

Às vezes, nossa atenção se fixa nas fotografias tentando buscar as intenções do fotógrafo, por exemplo.
