✦ There are so many unforgettable images from Wembley. The enormous stage. Thousands of voices singing together. Four extraordinary musicians creating something that could only exist when they stood on a stage together.
✦ And then, at the very end, came the crown.
✦ Freddie walked onto that stage in his magnificent crown and cape, every inch the showman. But when I watch these images now, the crown somehow feels like more than part of a costume.
✦ Freddie may have worn it, but everything it represented had been built by all four of them.
✦ Perhaps that is why I love these final moments so much. Freddie playfully hands his crown to Roger. They smile. They laugh. The four of them stand together and take their bow. And as they finally walk away, Freddie carries his robe while John carries the crown.
✦ There is something almost poetic about that image. The crown passing between them, from one member of Queen to another. Because although Freddie wore it so magnificently, the kingdom belonged to all four of them.
✦ Four completely different men who spent years creating, arguing, laughing and fighting for their music, building something none of them could ever have created alone.
✦ And when the spectacle was over, there they were.
✦ No crown. No cape. No individual standing above the others. Just Queen. Standing side by side, taking their bow before thousands of people who had come to see the extraordinary world they had created together.
✦ Freddie may have been the one wearing the crown, but when those four men stood together at the front of Wembley Stadium, you could see where the real magic had always lived.
✦ In all of them.
✦ And then Freddie, magnificent in his crown and cape, said goodnight to Wembley…
“Goodnight. You’ve been terrific. We love you. Thank you for being so special tonight, and putting up with the rain, and putting up with us.”

Habían recorrido Europa durante ocho semanas, realizado 26 conciertos y, al terminar la gira, habían tocado para más de un millón de personas.
Aquella noche comenzaron con “One Vision”.
Después vendrían Tie Your Mother Down, A Kind of Magic, Under Pressure, Another One Bites the Dust, Who Wants to Live Forever, Bohemian Rhapsody, Radio Ga Ga, We Will Rock You y finalmente We Are the Champions, entre otras.
Pero había algo que ninguno de ellos sabía.
Queen nunca volvería a dar un concierto con Freddie Mercury.
No hubo un anuncio de despedida.
No hubo una gira llamada “final”.
No hubo una última reverencia preparada para la historia.
Para Freddie, Brian, Roger, John y las miles de personas frente a ellos, aquello era simplemente el último concierto de una gira extraordinaria.
Solo el tiempo convertiría aquella noche en otra cosa.
Al terminar, Freddie agradeció al público y se despidió.
