Review: Queens of the Dead (2025) Sometimes you just want a film that doesn’t take itself too seriously. “Queens of the Dead” is the perfect pick for something chaotic, camp, and unapologetically queer. Set against the backdrop of a Brooklyn drag show, the story throws you headfirst into a sudden zombie outbreak. What unfolds isn’t your typical survivalist slog; it’s a high-stakes showcase of personality, flair, and big characters forced to find common ground. This isn’t a film chasing deep emotional beats. Instead, it fully embraces its identity as a loud, over-the-top horror comedy. The humor is bold, the energy is electric, and the performances are rightfully larger-than-life. What makes it stand out is how naturally it centers queer culture. By forgoing explanations or apologies, the film feels authentically rooted in its space, carrying a sense of confidence even at its most absurd. Granted, it won’t be for everyone. If you’re looking for grounded realism or a tear-jerker, keep walking. But if you’re in the mood for something playful and delightfully messy, it’s easy to get swept up in the fun. At its core, Queens of the Dead is about community, resilience, and refusing to lose your sparkle, even when everyone around you is falling apart... or trying to eat you. #QueensOfTheDead #TransDayOfVisibility #LGBTQComedy #LGBTQHorror #QueerCinema

QUEENS OF THE DEAD • Directed by Tina Romero, daughter of legendary filmmaker George A. Romero, this vibrant new thriller brings zombies to a new generation - with a fierce queer twist. When a zombie outbreak erupts during a glitter-soaked night at a legendary Brooklyn drag club, a group of drag queens and club kids must battle the undead using wit, choreography, and plenty of attitude. As stilettos become weapons and shade becomes a survival strategy, the queens prove that staying alive is the ultimate performance. Critical Acclaim: “A treat” – Variety “Generously funny and sharp” – LA Times “An instant indie hit” – Film Hounds “Sharp, bloody, and sassy entertainment.” – The Contending “An absolute blast that surprised the hell out of me.” – Screen Anarchy “A good zombie flick, a hilarious comedy, and a wonderfully sweet representation of the LGBTQIA+ community.” – Film Threat “A fabulous tongue-in-cheek cabaret show” – Collider “One of those hidden gems of a movie that has all the earmarks of a cult classic.” – Washington Blade “Riotously fuses sharp scares, biting social commentary, and a joyfully silly sense of humor.” – Cinapse “Queer excellence in all its messy glory.” – Vague Visages “Infectiously entertaining” – THN “Leans far more into glam than gore.” – Bloody Disgusting Festival Highlights: Tribeca Film Festival 2025 – Winner, Audience Award (Best Narrative Feature) Fantasia International Film Festival 2025 – Official Selection OutSouth Queer Film Festival 2025 – Official Selection Calgary International Film Festival 2025 – Official Selection MOTELX – Lisbon International Horror Film Festival 2025 – Official Selection Sydney Underground Film Festival 2025 – Official Selection @queensofthedead_official @dj_trx @margaret_cho @dominiquet.a.r.jackson @ninawest @mrcheyennejackson @thekatyo @jaquelspivey #AardwolfFilms #AwardWinning
