AFFAIRS OF THE HEART: 12-3-1991 34th Anniversary, 3rd album by Grammy Award Icon @jodywatley
Affairs of the Heart supplies a handful of energetic dance numbers and a plentiful selection of quiet storm ballads, the new material result is a set that’s much thicker and deeper sound.
Watley co-wrote nine of the album’s 11 tracks, which delivers a good mixture flow of R&B-funk, to classy house, to inspirational dance pop and groovy melody Motown-inspired soul.
“I Want You” - The official music video, directed by Andy Morahan, was featured on an episode of Beverly Hills, 90210.
“I’m the One You Need” was Watley’s seventh Top 20 pop single in the US, and sixth Top five dance single, charting at #19 on the Billboard Hot 100, and #6 on the Hot Dance Music/Club Play charts, respectively.

Backspin Chronicles: Black Radio — Before streaming, before algorithms, Black radio was the pulse of the block. The DJs were storytellers, gatekeepers, culture-shifters — dropping soul, funk, slow jams, and Sunday morning gospel like oxygen for the community. From Frankie Crocker to the Quiet Storm, those frequencies raised us, healed us, and kept us connected. Black radio didn’t just play the records… it built the culture.
Backspin Chronicles: keeping the dial locked on our legacy.

💛You know that beautiful couple who reminds you of what sweet old- fashioned love really looks like? One cooks like a Michelin chef—the other meticulously cleans up afterwards. Both laugh as they muse over current affairs, household affairs and their craziest friends’ affairs.
🧡One still reads the Sunday paper while the other plays classic old-school #QuietStorm tunes that fill the house while their kind and polite children pose thoughtful questions or drop quippy remarks that make you chuckle. The aroma from their kitchen lingers long after your belly is full of seconds and thirds. Yeah. That couple.
🤎They’ve loved each other so long and so intentionally you can’t even remember a time when they weren’t together.
They tend to you and yours like family — even if they haven’t seen you in years and their advice rivals that of your favorite therapist. Yeah. That couple.
🧡That’s the couple that comes to mind as I reflect on this day of gratitude. Thank you, Tracee and Ty Short, for modeling anointed love, for the reminder we all get second chances and for making biscuits so good, you want to eat them with salad for dinner.😍
💛Your love IS golden and sure to carry you through -and beyond-your golden season.✨🤎🤎✨
