Don’t let the fancy petals fool you, Ranunculus are easy-No green thumb required to grow them!
Now is the perfect time to get them started; they love the cooler weather. Each corm will produce 7-12 flowers and once the flower has been cut they can last up to TWO weeks in a vase! Just make sure you’re harvesting at the right time. The flowers will open during the day and close at night-ideally you’ll want to let your flowers open & unfold those dainty petals all the way once before cutting them.
They’ll start to die back at the beginning of summer, once temps are consistently above 70°. Leave them in the ground! Let their foliage brown & die back all the way before removing the leaves. They’ll come back! You’ll see them emerge from the ground again come fall, & you’ll be rewarded with even bigger plants next year!
Corms Available at the Farmstand | Open Daily 9-5pm

Hands down my favorite spring flower! Here are my best tips for success:
If you live in my area (PNW: zone 8), this week and next is really the last good chance to start these so they get enough cold temps to bloom for several weeks in spring!
If you are in colder zones, you can wait a tad longer, but keep in mind that ranunculus can handle cold temps quite well (without protection): anything down to 25 degrees F, they’re fine with! They do shut down production once temps consistently reach 80 degrees though. If you live in a place where springs get hot quick, I would recommend finding a spot to plant that gets afternoon shade: it will help them last longer!
Is Presprouting necessary? No. But I like to do it because I’ve found corms are less likely to get eaten by critters if they’re already growing. But if you want to just soak them and plant them, that’s fine too!
Can you save the corms? Absolutely! Ranunculus make more baby corms every year and you can easily save these - let me know if you want a tutorial on that! There are just a couple important (but easy) steps that are key for success.
The succession I’m planting now will bloom May and June and each plant produces 4-7 flowers over the weeks. They’re a loooooong lasting bloom as well and easily give me a two week vase life.
Let me know if you have more questions!

It can be really easy to get hung up on what you can’t grow in your climate. Instead, focus on what you CAN grow, and maybe run down your local florist to enjoy cut flowers of what you can’t grow.
Some of our favorites peony like blooms include ranunculus, lisianthus and roses! We love to grow these and the bloom at different times of the year which is an added bonus 💜✨
saving your broken ranunculus is simple, just grab a few basic florist supplies 👇🏼 disclaimer: I’m a wedding/event only florist, so this is something we would do in a pinch for a max of 2-3 day display. If you are in a traditional flower shop that does deliveries that need to last longer than for just event work, this isn’t ideal for you ☺️
- corsage tape
- pipe cleaner
- wire (the thick/not easily bendable stuff!)
- wire cutters (are yours also rusty like mine 😂)

The ranunculus bag method. I’ve talked about it before. It’s SO easy. Soak your corms. Snip air holes into a ziploc bag. Fill with your corms. Wait.
That’s the main rundown. I currently have a large plastic bag- think a trash bag- filled in the barn too. It doesn’t need to be fancy. It works!
If you are local & missed the boat on starting your ranunculus or are too intimidated on starting your own. I’ve got you covered. We have pre sprouted & potted ranunculus plants available now. Pickups will be this weekend & next weekend. They can be planted now (with protection)!

Italian Ranunculus… the flower I would literally make a bed out of if I could 🥲🌸
Most people think they’re hard to grow, but honestly they just miss a few key things at the start
They don’t like being rushed. They need cooler conditions, really well-draining soil, and a bit of patience while they establish
If it’s still warm where you are, you can always pre-sprout them first
And a really important one to understand… watering
If you overwater early or plant them somewhere that stays wet, they can rot before they even get going — so just adjust based on your conditions
And the part no one talks about enough… feeding
Once they’re up and growing, they are HUNGRY. If you want long stems and heaps of blooms, you need to fertilise consistently
They also love calcium for strong stems, so I always use blood and bone
Get these basics right and one corm can turn into armfuls of flowers 🌸
I’m sharing more as I grow this season, so follow along if you want your ranunculus to actually thrive 🤍
