One of those full reef maintenance days. The kind where you start with one job… and end up doing ten. Today’s list: • Full parameter testing • PAR mapping the tank • Replaced the RowaPhos in the reactor • Increased carbon dosing • Emptied the skimmer cup • Adjusted flow (the gonis were not impressed) • Mounted four new torch corals from a fellow hobbyist • Fragged up a frogspawn • Cleaned the glass • Fed the fish • Increased lighting intensity by 10% after PAR testing Latest parameters: Calcium – 475 Alk – 8.6 Magnesium – 1350 Nitrate – 44.9 Phosphate – 0.45 Salinity – 1.026 Reef tanks might look peaceful… but behind the scenes there’s always something to tweak. ‼️Stop looking for the answer to your reef problem—start looking for the right answer for your system.‼️ Johnny on TikTok says do this. Lucie on Reddit says do that. They might both be right…for their tanks. Context matters: • Tim runs high nutrients and battles big phosphate swings. • Lucie runs an ultra-low nutrient system and just needs to keep things stable. So Lucie might use Phosban-L, dosing it into her skimmer to gently maintain phosphate. Tim might choose GFO because his levels are more elevated and he needs stronger export—and he’s cautious about lanthanum chloride after seeing concerns about its impact on tangs. Same “phosphate problem.” Completely different best answers. That’s why you never grab the first solution and run with it. • Gather information. • Compare multiple methods. • Understand the risks and side effects. • Ask: does this make sense for my system, my livestock, my goals? Don’t just copy a fix—design one that fits your reef. I want nothing more than to see each and every person have success in this hobby.
