SCENARIO DICTATES - A tourniquet isn’t gentle. If it’s applied correctly, it’s going to hurt badly. That pain means pressure, and pressure means bleeding is being controlled. When you put a tourniquet on a patient, you’re making a decision to cause pain in order to save a life. That decision has to be confident, deliberate and final. You don’t loosen it. You don’t take it off because the patient is screaming. You leave it in place until higher medical care takes over. This is why you train for this scenario. You train so the first time you feel a pulse disappear isn’t under stress. You train so the sound of someone in pain doesn’t make you hesitate. You train so your hands know exactly what to do when your brain is overloaded. Hesitation, half measures, and doubt can be costly. Reps build confidence.
