A quiet 48 hours in the Dolomites
If you had two days here…
Start with a cable car ride up to Alpe di Siusi, where gentle trails wind across Europe’s largest alpine meadow and the views stretch endlessly across the peaks.
The morning began grey at the base, and many visitors turned back. The staff smiled and told us, all the better for you — people forget how quickly the weather changes in the mountains.
They were right. Above the clouds, the views were spectacular.
Later, we found the perfect balance: a cedar sauna and cold baths in our dreamy hotel spa with mountain views and one of my favourite discoveries — a boutique family-run stay where you feel more like family than a guest.
The next day, drive the spectacular switchbacks to Passo Pordoi, where dramatic rock formations and sweeping panoramas take your breath away.
End the afternoon wandering the charming village of Ortisei, followed by a simple, delicious meal.
We wandered slowly — picnics in grassy fields, fresh alpine air, and a late gondola ride for golden hour as the mountains changed colour before our eyes.
Pure perfection.
