10 things emotionally neglected children do as adults...and what they're actually trying to heal. 1. They apologize for things that aren't their fault. ✨️They are learning that their existence doesn't require an apology. 2. They don't know what they feel until they're already reacting. ✨️ They are building the pause between feeling and behavior. 3. They people please because love always felt conditional. ✨️ They are learning love doesn't require performing. 4. They freeze when someone is upset with them. ✨️ They are learning conflict doesn't mean abandonment. 5. They feel responsible for everyone else's emotions. ✨️ They are learning other people's feelings are not their fault. 🦋 Quick reminder to save this so you don't lose it. 6. They have a high tolerance for being treated poorly. ✨️ They are learning what self respect feels like. 7. They are either very in touch with everyone's emotions or completely disconnected from their own. ✨️ They are learning their inner world is as real as everyone else's. 8. They minimize their own pain. ✨️ They are learning their experience was real and valid. 9. They find it easier to give than to receive. ✨️ They are learning they are also worth care. 10. They become parents who desperately want to do it differently. ✨️ This. Right here. What you're doing now. Number 10 is where Pebble Path Journal begins. A therapist-approved emotional regulation and awareness journal for children ages 5-8. Five minutes every day. A mood check-in that teaches them to notice what they feel. A gratitude practice that trains resilience. A character-led lesson that gives them the emotional vocabulary most adults spend years trying to build. The words a child has at 5 become the tools they use at 25. Your child's story starts in today. Make it a different one. Comment PATH and I'll send you the link. 🌿 Name it young. Use it forever. #consciousparenting #emotionalneglect #reparenting #gentleparenting

I don’t think healing is about becoming a completely different person. I think sometimes it’s about finally becoming the person that little girl might have been if she had felt safe enough to just be herself. 💔 Before you learned to read the room. Before you became responsible for everyone else’s emotions. Before love felt like something you had to earn. Before you learned to shrink, perform, people-please, or abandon yourself just to stay connected. She’s still in there.🥹 And reparenting isn’t about changing the past. It’s about becoming the safe adult she needed back then. The one who protects her. Who believes her. Who lets her have boundaries. Who doesn’t shame her for having feelings. Who reminds her that she never has to betray herself to be loved. Maybe healing isn’t becoming “better.” Maybe it’s finally giving yourself enough safety to come home to who you were before survival took over. If we haven’t met, I’m Renee Minx, a licensed therapist, childhood trauma survivor, and someone who has gone no contact with a narcissistic parent. This clip is from Heal With Enthusiasm, one of the programs my private coaching clients receive access to as part of their journey inside this work. Healing was never meant to feel like punishment. Transformation was never meant to come only through exhaustion. There is another way to grow. One rooted in self-respect, truth, enthusiasm, and freedom. If you’re ready to explore what that could look like for your life, career, relationships, or next chapter, I’d love to speak with you. Childhood is short, but the habits and thought patterns we internalize at a young age reach far into our adulthood. In her new book, “Reparenting the Inner Child,” bestselling author and clinical psychologist Nicole LePera breaks down exactly how adolescent experiences shape our thought processes, our relationships, and our reactions as adults. Tap the link in our bio to watch our Editorial Director @pilar_guzman talk to Nicole about how people tend towards certain attachment styles based on childhood experiences.
The version of you that ran through fields, laughed for no reason, and loved without fear... they didn’t disappear. They’re still in there, waiting to be seen, held, and chosen. Not every part of us needs to be healed. Some just need to be remembered. Today in therapy, my inner child picked up the crayons. And honestly… she had a lot to say. Sometimes healing isn’t about words — it’s about giving our younger parts a safe place to express what they’ve been holding for years. #innerchild #somatictherapy #emotions #reparenting #healingjourney #chakrahealing #therapy #partswork

When you sit with your child during a meltdown instead of punishing them, you're not just parenting — you're reparenting. Child therapist and @biglittlefeelings co-founder Deena Margolin explains how reflecting on your own childhood experiences with anger and sadness can help you become the parent you always needed. For more expert parenting advice, check out Deena’s companion column, "After After Bedtime," at the link in our bio.
Here are just a FEW 👇 1. Your parents design their perfect child in a lab. What’s on the order form? Compliant? High-earning? Self-sacrificing? If you’re a 90% match, that’s not personality — that’s training. 2. A stranger with your exact personality walks into their living room. What gets criticized first? That’s the part of you that got edited out. 3. Your parents narrate a nature documentary about everyone you grew up around. “Observe: the messy one. She will never amount to anything.” Those verdicts became your rulebook. 4. They ring your doorbell unannounced. What do you scramble to hide in 30 seconds? Not the mess — the you. 5. What compliment do you get as an adult that would’ve been an insult in your childhood home? Same trait, new lighting. 6. We find 8-year-old you six hours into a completely unsupervised day. No bribes, no threats, no adults. What are you doing? That’s your original flow state — before it got labelled annoying or unproductive. 7. A genie deletes your biggest fear — rejection, shame, abandonment, pick one. What do you do in the first week? That’s what the fear has been guarding you from being. 8. The trait you’re most ashamed of: who shamed you for it first? Shame has a sender. Check the return address. 9. Their approval is permanently off the table. Never coming. What do you quit doing by Friday? Everything on that list was performance, not personality. 10. What did their faces do the last time you were the most “yourself”? That flinch taught you which parts were “too much.” They weren’t.
