Research is experimenting, right? THIS IS UNDERGRADUATE RESEARCH Mia used her undergraduate research experience to experiment with different areas of research and found her research niche in Atmospheric Chemistry at USC. Through #UndergraduateResearch, she has traveled abroad, mentored a high school student, and studied how air quality affects the environment. These opportunities are happening now—not later—giving her a head start on graduate school and setting her up for success in life. #DiscoveryForEverDiscipline #SkillsForEveryFuture @uofsc_cas 🎬cred @navmalladi

One of the biggest mistakes I made as a premed and med student? I said yes to every research opportunity. More projects. More commitments. More stress. And eventually… less impact. Here’s what I wish I knew 👇 Before joining a research project, ask: 🧠 Am I genuinely interested in this topic? 🛠 Will this build skills I need or want to improve? 📈 Will I gain a new skill set? 😩 Will I dread showing up every day? Because your time is limited. You’re studying. Preparing for the MCAT. Volunteering. Shadowing. Applying. Being busy isn’t the goal. Being intentional is. For me, medical education became my passion. For you, it might be psychology, microbiology, public health, or health equity. When you choose research you truly care about: ✨ you stay engaged ✨ you go deeper ✨ you produce meaningful work ✨ your passion shines in interviews Admissions committees can tell the difference between checking boxes and genuine curiosity. Choose depth. Choose purpose. Choose passion. 💬 Comment RESEARCH if you want help deciding between opportunities. 💾 Save this before saying yes to your next project. — 🚀 Feeling overwhelmed navigating research, applications, and everything in between? Most premeds aren’t short on ambition — they’re short on guidance. That’s why I built Premed Academy — to level the playing field and give future doctors mentorship, clarity, and a roadmap forward. No guessing. No overcommitting. Just focused progress. Describe your research in one word
My relationship with research didn’t begin as a grand plan. It started with curiosity, messy questions, and a constant need to understand why systems work the way they do and who they fail along the way. What began as coursework slowly turned into interviews, data, policy work, late nights and that to a familiar feeling of wanting to say just one more thing during presentations. Somewhere between surveys, frameworks, and real world implications, research stopped being an academic requirement and became personal. How am I supposed to compress months of thinking into a 20-minute presentation or a word limit? I can’t. And honestly, I don’t want to. It’s complex, layered, and often uncomfortable but that’s exactly why I can’t let it go.
