Something big has come to Charlotte… meet Big Pete the Troll. 
This giant 65-foot troll by Danish artist Thomas Dambo is one of seven new trolls in North Carolina, and he’s officially watching over Charlotte’s growing River District. His feet alone are over 7 feet tall, carved with wooden “toenails,” an arched sole, and all the incredible details Dambo is known for. Big Pete is resting on his side, surrounded by the scent of fresh wood and yes, he really is as magical in person as he looks. 📍 Location: River District, Charlotte NC
Park near River District Drive & Crescent River Road, then walk up the hill (it can be muddy!)

✨Things to do in and around Charlotte with kids! ✨ Meet Big Pete with the Big Feet, the newest (and tallest!) addition to Charlotte’s outdoor art scene! 🧌💚 You’ll find him lounging on top of a hill near: 📍 The intersection of River District Drive and Crescent River Road in The River District development. Even though the area is still under construction (and a little muddy), it’s so worth the visit! You can spot Big Pete as soon as you arrive, my boys were “WOW!” and full of questions about him, and I bet your kids will be the same! 🤩 🎨 The “troll artist” behind Big Pete is Danish artist Thomas Dambo, world-famous for his giant wooden trolls. This 65-foot sculpture is made entirely from recycled and salvaged materials, including local wood, and is part of Dambo’s global “Trail of a Thousand Trolls” a project celebrating sustainability and creativity through art. 🌍✨ 💡My Tips: 👟 Wear comfortable shoes, the path can be steep. 🪣 Be ready for some dirt! The site is still under construction and can get pretty muddy. 🍔 Make it a full family adventure and swing by the nearby Airport Overlook Playground (just a short drive away).
