Here’s what works ⤵️ If your kids are roughhousing too rough and it always seems to end in tears, I get you. They are having fun until they just aren’t anymore. Yet, they won’t quit when you suggest maybe they should. 4 TIPS: 💥First SAVE this post so you can remember it when you need it 1️⃣Honour the No Make sure your house rules state that when someone says Stop or No, you listen. 🛑That often starts with us, the parents, honouring that first. Even if we are tickling them or doing anything else that we think is fun. If your child says stop, stop. It has to be a house rule and everyone has to follow it. 2️⃣Empower them practice having your kids practice standing up for themselves and having a very strong and solid NO voice. Teach them to hold up their hand in a stop motion and say “Stop, I don’t like that!” ✋✋ It takes practice for little ones to find their voice, especially with their older siblings. Empower them to practice and speak for themselves. 3️⃣Set ground rules If you have kids that are rough housing a lot, they usually come up with their own rules. If you see that they are often getting hurt, you might have to step in and make sure everyone is ok with the rules. 👉Instead of setting the rules for them, just check in and make sure everyone agrees with the rules. Maybe the littler ones re-evaluate and realize they actually aren’t ok with things. Just call for a PAUSE game and discuss. “What are the rules of the game guys? Does everyone feel safe with those rules?” 4️⃣ Step aside I get it, we don’t want our kids to get hurt. Also, they learn a lot from rough housing. As long as they are not being malicious, everyone agrees on the rules and they are having fun, let them be. Sure they might get hurt but then they will learn their limits. They will learn when to say stop and when to adjust the rules for their own safety.
