The UK is finally scaling back arrests for social media posts after thousands of citizens were arrested! Is this a win for free speech or a necessary change? 🤔 Drop your thoughts below! #freespeech #uknews #socialmedianews
"UK police made over 12,000 arrests in 2023 alone for 'offensive' online posts under old comms laws — that's more than 30 arrests EVERY DAY for things like Facebook comments, memes, or retweets. Only a fraction lead to convictions, but the chilling effect is real. Elon Musk called it 'real fascism.' What do you think — protecting people or crushing speech? Drop your thoughts below! 🔥 Source: The Times FOI data + recent reports. #UKArrests #SocialMediaCensorship #FacebookJail #FreeSpeechUK #WakeUp"
I usually attempt to remain relatively apolitical, however a Lawyer friend has recommended I post this. We are headed into a very dark time in Australia’s history. Given I used to respect both Politicians and Police, I never thought I would be passing this on. However? Here we are… As the NSW Labor party enacts it’s “Hate Speech Law” (AKA “FREE SPEECH SUPPRESSION LAW”) and tries to make NSW the most liveable place in the world (outside of North Korea, Iran or the UK currently) by attempting to ban or censor free speech, I am sure many of our serving Police embarrassed into enforcing this law (until no doubt overturned at the next election), will inevitably knock at some of our doors. If using the UK Police tactics? It’ll be early in the morning (wherein you may be in a confused state - STAY CALM). The post is a legally recognized dot point to provide your rights are protected. At all times, BE POLITE but FIRM. If not legally compelled to co-operate, do not do so without legal representation. The knock of the door is largely an intimidation tactic - BE CONFIDENT and BE POLITE. I would recommend writing these instructions down, and keeping a copy by your front door. If it happens? Shocking truth about non-crime hate incidents: You might not even know you have one until a job application reveals it. An invasion of privacy that leaves you in the dark. #JusticeSystem #Privacy #HateCrime #Police
A NSW Police Force delegation travelled to the UK to study so called "best practise" in anti hate policing. This is the same UK that sees around 30 arrests per day for online comments with over 12,000 arrests in 2023. That's what's coming to NSW...
Toby Young of the Free Speech Union celebrates news that so-called ‘non-crime hate incidents’ will be scrapped by police in England and Wales. ‘The police are far too busy policing our tweets to police our streets...’ #freespeech #police #uknews #gbnews
Police knocking on doors for social media threats? This is becoming the norm. Easier than real police work. #PoliceAccountability #FreedomOfSpeech #Canada #SocialMedia #BigBrother #LawEnforcement #CivilLiberties
Police time will no longer be wasted investigating legal social media posts freeing up officers to patrol the streets and tackle real crime said the UK Home Office today. What do you think? They went on to say "Over recent years, guidance has failed to keep pace with the digital age and has led to officers being called out to people's homes over insults and routine arguments. New measures announced today, will introduce a new system that will prevent police from recording lawful free speech, whilst ensuring that reports from the public, which may lead to genuine harm, get the right response." I post daily from the road, follow for more. #fyp #UKnews #UK #Police #homeoffice
Attacks on free speech in Victoria are never ending. Which parties do you think flipped their positions on free speech, and which stayed consistent? #freespeech #hatespeech
The government is planning to expand social media blocking powers beyond the IT Ministry—bringing multiple departments into the takedown framework. HOME, DEFENCE, MEA JOIN THE LIST While the move aims to tackle AI deepfakes and real-time threats, critics warn it could widen censorship and impact free expression online. FASTER ACTION OR WIDER CENSORSHIP? . . #socialmedia #govtcontrol #AI #censorship #inyourinterest
Tensions rise as police officers arrive to arrest an activist, leading to a heated confrontation over accountability and transparency. The footage captures a startling moment where the officers, faces obscured, invoke the Serious Crime Act and the Terrorism Act to justify the detention. When challenged on their anonymity and the nature of the charges, the situation escalates, raising difficult questions about policing, intimidation tactics, and the right to hold authorities accountable. Is this standard procedure, or a worrying shift in how law enforcement engages with dissent? #PoliceAccountability #CivilLiberties #Activism #PoliceTransparency #SeriousCrimeAct
QLD police have raided a church due to a breach of the new hate speech laws. There is no doubt that the sign displayed breaches the law, the question is whether there will be a defence mounted based on the common law right to free speech.
