— Just because you are in menopause doesn’t mean your sex life and any form of intimacy is over. It often requires navigating physical changes with new strategies, better communication, and self-compassion.

Midlife can change the conversation around sex, desire and intimacy, but that does not mean pleasure, confidence or connection are off the table.
In this episode of Thriving in Menopause, Prevention Australia editor Zoe Meunier sits down with renowned urologist and women’s sexual health advocate Dr Kelly Casperson for an honest, empowering conversation about what really happens to desire during perimenopause and menopause.
They unpack hormones, vaginal health, the psychology of desire and why so many women are left feeling confused, dismissed or quietly disconnected from their bodies.
Expect practical insight, myth-busting and the kind of reassurance too many women never hear: you are not broken, and this part of life is still yours to understand and enjoy.

…for conversations of a potentially “graphic nature”
Yes. Really.
Apparently, in 2026, we’re still whispering about women’s bodies.
How are we still calling menopause graphic…
The hormonal shifts can bring symptoms that are genuinely hard to live with.
That’s true.
But menopause is a natural process that roughly 50% of the population will experience.
Yet, we’re still treating conversations about it like they need a warning label.
We’ve moved on from blue water in period product adverts, but we have such a long way to go.
This cultural discomfort with women’s bodies is no coincidence.
And talking about the profound impact hormonal changes have on our bodies, our minds, and our identities…
isn’t graphic.
It’s necessary.
What we actually need are more spaces where women can show up exactly as they are in their midlife experience - without sanitising it.
And that’s exactly why I’m building The Unfolding.
A space where midlife women can find their village, say what they need to say and own their next chapter.
Together.
I’m curious, were menopause conversations open in your world growing up… or completely absent?
