This is the number 1 mistake I see in patients with low back pain and sciatica:
They keep wanting to stretch away the pain. But stretching causes more problems because nerves HATE stretch!
So instead of trying to stretch away the pain, we take our patients through a 3 phase process to get long term relief.
1) Reset pain levels through movements and treatment that will reduce inflammation
2) Addressing the root issues that led to the injury in the first place.
3) Building strength in the key muscles around the injury to lock in long-term results.
Without these 3, you will keep trying to stretch away the pain, but ultimately not get any lasting results.

✨ Sciatic Nerve Flossing — Supine | with Dr. Taylor ✨
This gentle movement can help reduce low back pain, sciatica, tightness, numbness, and tingling when done correctly and consistently. Follow these steps carefully:
1️⃣ Bend your hip so that it makes a 90° angle with your body.
2️⃣ Put your hands behind your knee to stabilize.
3️⃣ Gradually straighten your knee while pointing your foot and toes upward.
4️⃣ Straighten your knee until tension is felt in the back of the leg.
5️⃣ Keep your leg completely still while “pumping” your foot/ankle up and down.
6️⃣ “Pump” your ankle for 5 repetitions, then bend your knee back down.
7️⃣ Repeat 10 times, to tolerance.
💡 This movement should feel like a gentle stretch and nerve glide — not sharp pain. Move slowly and with control for best results.

What if your sciatic pain isn’t coming from your back… but from your hip? 🤯🔥
Most people stretch their hamstrings, crack their low back, and chase the pain down the leg… but it keeps coming right back 😩⚡️
Because if the sciatic nerve is getting trapped at the external rotators, every step, every sit, every workout keeps irritating it.
Until you free that nerve, the pain keeps shooting right back down your leg 💥
🔥 By breaking up that adhesion, you can take pressure off the nerve and finally go after the REAL source of your sciatic pain 🙌⚡️

Do you suffer from sciatica, leg pain, or back pain? 😣
Have you tried everything—stretching, flossing, chiropractic adjustments—but nothing seems to last? ❌
That’s because your sciatic nerve is most likely being compressed at L5-S1 😖.
At Restore Soft Tissue & Spine in Old Tappan, New Jersey, we free up that nerve by removing the adhesion that glues it down along the spine 💆♂️✨.
Once that adhesion is gone, the nerve finally has room to glide—and the pain goes with it.
Comment “pain” 🖐️ if you’re tired of suffering, and let’s get you on your way to a pain-free life 🙌💪

Over 6 months of sciatica.
Multiple doctors.
Multiple therapists.
No lasting relief.
This was his first visit with us.
When we evaluated him, we didn’t just look at where it hurt - we assessed the entire nerve pathway.
We found multiple restrictions limiting the sciatic nerve’s ability to glide.
But the worst restriction was higher than expected.
At the L5 nerve roots, where they travel through the abdomen and interface with the psoas, the fascial connections were adhered.
How did we know?
When palpated, the tissue didn’t bow or move normally under tension.
There was tone higher in the psoas - but this segment lacked normal glide.
That’s a red flag.
When nerve roots can’t move, the nervous system increases protective guarding downstream.
That guarding sustains leg pain.
In this video, I show how we release that restriction.
He felt an immediate difference.
But this isn’t the entire solution.
Chronic sciatica is rarely one structure.
It’s a process of unlayering the worst, most accessible restrictions first - calming the nervous system step by step to create sustainable change.
This is how we start.
📌 KEY POINTS
• Sciatica is often multi-level
• Nerve roots must glide
• Guarding travels downstream
• Identify the worst restriction first
• Sustainable change requires sequencing
If sciatica has:
• Lasted months
• Failed therapy or injections
• Kept coming back

If your sciatica keeps coming back, something is still restricting the nerve.
Burning. Pulling. Deep hip pain that shoots down the leg.
That’s how most people describe sciatica - and for many, it has nothing to do with a disc.
In this video, I show how the sciatic nerve becomes adhered to the piriformis, limiting its ability to glide and triggering a constant protective response.
Why adhesions form
Adhesions develop after:
• Injury or surgery
• Repetitive loading
• Prolonged guarding
• Inflammation or immobility
When tissues lose their ability to slide independently, the nervous system perceives threat.
Why pressure matters
Releasing a nerve adhesion is not about “digging harder.”
Research and clinical models show that approximately 6.2 lbs of force is required to restore glide -
but only when applied with precise contact and direction.
Too little = no change
Too much = guarding increases
What happens when the nerve can’t move
• The hip increases protective guarding
• Muscles stay hypertonic
• Load shifts abnormally
• Pain persists - even at rest or with stretching
That’s why stretching alone often makes sciatica worse.
The missing piece
Releasing the sciatic nerve is one step.
If you don’t also:
✔️ Identify all remaining restrictions
✔️ Restore normal movement
✔️ Rebuild tolerance to load
…the nervous system will protect again - and the pain comes back.
Lasting relief requires a system, not a single technique.
📌 KEY POINTS
• Sciatica isn’t always spinal
• Nerves must glide to calm pain
• Adhesions block movement, not strength
• Precise force matters more than pressure
• Release + function = lasting change
If sciatica has:
• Lingered for months or years
• Come back after stretching or injections
• Limited how you move or train

🔥 Sciatic pain that starts in the low back and shoots down the leg?
The problem may be at the source — the sciatic nerve root itself.
When adhesion builds up around the sciatic nerve root, it can cause:
❌ Sharp or burning leg pain
❌ Low back tightness or weakness
❌ Pain that travels into the hip or glute
❌ Temporary relief that never lasts
👉 Here we’re removing the adhesion surrounding the sciatic nerve root, restoring normal nerve glide and helping the pain finally settle down at its origin.

Chronic sciatic pain isn’t always coming from your spine 👀
When the sciatic nerve gets trapped by tight or restricted external rotator muscles, it can’t glide the way it’s supposed to—leading to burning, pulling, numbness, or deep hip-to-leg pain ⚡️
By releasing the external rotators and freeing the nerve pathway, we reduce irritation at the source and restore normal movement—no injections, no surgery, no guesswork.

Stop stretching your sciatica.
It can actually make it worse.
If you have a bulging or herniated disc, stretching pulls on the sciatic nerve increasing pain instead of fixing it.
What you need is a game plan that reduces disc pressure.
That’s how pain really changes.

⚠️ Sciatic pain that WON’T go away? It might NOT be your low back…⚠️
What if the real problem is your sciatic nerve getting trapped at the external rotators deep in your hip? 😳🔥
This is one of the most MISSED causes of chronic sciatic pain — and why stretching, foam rolling, and adjustments don’t fully fix it ❌
When the nerve gets stuck here, it can cause:
❌ Pain shooting down the leg
❌ Deep glute pain that won’t release
❌ Tightness that keeps coming back
❌ Sitting or driving discomfort 🚗
💥 Here, we’re directly treating the adhesion around the sciatic nerve at the external rotators — going straight to the ROOT of the issue instead of chasing symptoms.

Chronic sciatica isn’t always coming from a disc or your low back.
In many cases, the sciatic nerve gets entrapped at the external rotators of the hip. When these deep muscles become glued down with adhesion, they restrict the nerve’s ability to glide—sending pain, burning, numbness, or tingling down the leg.
That’s why stretching, foam rolling, chiropractic, injections, and even massage often give only temporary relief. They don’t remove adhesion.
Adhesion is a glue-like substance that binds muscles and nerves together, disrupting normal movement and irritating the nervous system. Until it’s cleared, the nerve stays irritated.
At Wildcard Spine and Sport, Dr. Mike specializes in finding and removing these hidden nerve entrapments to address the root cause of chronic sciatica—not just the symptoms.

Back pain that travels down your leg is often a sign that a nerve is involved.
When a spinal disc or nearby structure irritates the sciatic nerve, pain can move from the lower back into the hip, leg, and sometimes even the foot.
This type of pain may feel like:
• burning
• tingling
• numbness
• sharp shooting discomfort
Many people try to stretch or ignore it for months — sometimes years — without realizing the true source.
Understanding where pain actually begins is the first step toward finding the right treatment.
