Save This Activity | Scooterboard Rope Pull ✨ This simple setup is a fun, engaging way to build: - Core strength - Upper body strength - Bilateral coordination (using both sides of the body together) ✨ To progress the activity: Add pegs onto the rope for your child to remove as they move, incorporating fine motor skills and increased motor planning. ✨ Level it up again: Use coloured pegs and give instructions like “only collect the pink pegs” to challenge attention, processing, and following directions. Our EveryKid OTs help support the development of strength, coordination, and motor planning through personalised, play-based therapy. 👉 We currently have OT appointments available - book online via the link in our bio #everykid #occupationaltherapy #finemotorskills #grossmotorskills #kidsactivities
Scooter boarding isn’t just fun — it’s powerful therapy in motion 💥🛴 In both OT and PT, scooter boards help kids build: • Core strength & postural control • Shoulder stability & upper body strength • Bilateral coordination • Motor planning & body awareness • Endurance and overall muscle activation While they’re racing, pulling, or navigating obstacle courses, they’re strengthening the exact foundations needed for handwriting, self-care skills, balance, and safe mobility. Movement + play + purpose = progress 🙌
Scooter boards are one of the most versatile tools in pediatric occupational therapy. Kids think they’re just playing, but we’re targeting strength, coordination, sensory processing, and motor development. Here are a few ways I use them in therapy 👇 Heel walking on scooter board Child sits on the scooter and propels using their heels instead of toes. This encourages dorsiflexion, ankle strength, and body awareness, which can help address persistent toe walking patterns. Spinning on scooter board Controlled spinning provides vestibular input that helps with balance, body awareness, and regulation. Some kids seek this input and it can help them feel more organized and ready to participate in other activities. Hungry Hungry Hippos game (prone) Laying on their tummy while using pool noodles to grab balls works on upper body strength, shoulder stability, core activation, and motor planning while keeping the activity playful and motivating. Prone puzzle transport Child rides prone on the scooter board to collect puzzle pieces and bring them back. This targets bilateral coordination, visual motor skills, postural strength, and endurance. Supported walking with adult on scooter board The adult sits on the scooter board and moves with the child while supporting at the hips/trunk. This allows the child to practice a more natural walking pattern and keeps arms free for balance. It’s also much easier on the caregiver’s back compared to bending over or holding a child’s hands overhead. Scooter boards = one tool, so many developmental goals. #occupationaltherapy #pediatricot #toewalking #sensoryprocessing #childdevlopment
Happy Movement Monday! 😊 For today’s Movement Monday, we’re rolling into fun with a scooter board— an exciting way to help kids build strength, coordination, and body awareness while they move with purpose! 🛴💙 Using a sit scooter board helps with: ✨ Core Strength – sitting upright without tipping builds strong tummy and back muscles. ✨ Bilateral Coordination – using both legs together (or alternating feet) to push and glide. ✨ Motor Planning – figuring out how hard to push, when to stop, and how to steer around obstacles. ✨ Body Awareness – learning where the body is in space while moving forward, backward, or turning. ✨ Endurance & Postural Control – maintaining balance and posture while moving across different distances. 🛴 How to Practice with a Sit Scooter Board: Create a path to follow using cones, pillows, or tape lines. Have your child push forward using both feet, then try alternating feet. Practice stopping at a target (a stuffed animal or colored spot). Try pulling themselves forward using their heels only. Add upper body work — carry a beanbag on their lap or pass a ball back and forth while scooting. 💡 Tip Keep it playful! Pretend you’re “driving a race car,” “delivering special packages,” or “rescuing animals across the room.” Slow, controlled movements build more strength and coordination than fast crashing rides! 🛴✨ #WePlayKids #PediatricTherapy #ChildDevelopment #GrossMotorSkills

Balance activities do more than keep kids upright! 🏃‍♂️✨ They also build core strength, coordination, body awareness, and attention—all key for play, learning, and everyday skills. In pediatric OT, we turn balance practice into fun games so kids grow stronger while they play. 💪🎉
Scooter board activities are fun, motivating, and support many important developmental skills! * Strengthens upper body muscles * Improves bilateral coordination (using both sides of the body together) * Supports development of motor planning skills * Enhances balance and body awareness * Promotes shoulder stability for better fine motor skills

One scooter board. 3 different strength challenges: 💪Prone push-off → shoulder stability 💪Triceps push-off → upper body strength 💪Supine kick-off → core + leg power Bonus! It’s so motivating for them to see how many point they can get! #occupationaltherapy #pediatricoccupationaltherapy #schoolbasedot #corestrength #reflexintegration
Want to make balance training harder in 2 seconds? Add head turns. 👀 Standing on a moving scooter board already challenges core strength, postural control, and dynamic balance. When we add head turns, the vestibular system has to work overtime to keep the body stable while the visual field changes. That means the brain is integrating vestibular input, coordinating the trunk, and adjusting balance in real time. Big work for the brain and body… but to kids it just feels like a fun ride. 🚀 Save this idea for your next balance activity! • • #pediatricphysicaltherapy #pediatricpt #vestibularsystem #pediatrictherapy #balanceactivities #grossmotorskills #motorplanning #corestrengthforkids #playbasedtherapy #movementforkids #therapyideas #ptforkids
