Double the households depending on this outreach. The need is rising. Help us keep the trajectory moving forward in 2026. Give. Serve. Like. We started our day at Second Harvest House Food Bank. This major operation primarily takes care of seniors and children. They prepare at least 2,000 very nutritious meals and food boxes for seniors weekly. They also prepare food for children for their after school program. While we were there, we helped them prepare their meals for both seniors and kids. They make over 1000 food boxes a day to distribute, and our St Leo’s crew made over 400 during our time working with them. When they aren’t doing all that, they also prepare meals to freeze for hurricane season…around 10,000 or so. Their mission is to make sure no one is hungry, and it is a powerful thing to witness. We really enjoyed learning about their many impactful programs while briefly being a small part of what this organization does to help those in need. Their true mission and passion is to make sure no one goes to bed hungry! ❤️
On March 7 & 8, hundreds of volunteers will gather at Benedictine University’s Rice Arena to fight hunger on two fronts at once, reaching children around the world while caring for families right here at home. Through our partnership with Feed My Starving Children, volunteers of all ages will pack nutritious meals that will travel thousands of miles to children facing severe hunger. It’s hands-on, meaningful work that truly changes lives. And this year, we’re doubling the impact. We’re also partnering with Loaves & Fishes Community Services to support our local neighbors. Bring non-perishable food items to help stock local pantry shelves, because one act of showing up can help a child across the ocean and a family down the street. With more than 2,500 participants expected, the energy will be incredible! There is something powerful about being in a room full of people united by generosity and compassion, and we couldn’t be prouder to be part of a church that lives this out again and again. Mark your calendars for March 7 & 8. Bring a friend. Bring your family. Bring a few cans from your pantry. For more information about registering, and what to bring, head over to our website. Together, we can create lasting change, one meal and one donation at a time. #feedtheneed #illinoisbenedictineuniversity #communityinaction
Take another look inside The Shelf Life, our new storytelling series created with Metacomet Studio to highlight the people and programs that keep our mission moving. In today’s reel, the second in this series, Board Member Kevin Donovan reflects on the heart of our Hunger-Free Schools Backpack Program — making sure students have the food they need so they can focus, learn, and simply be kids. As Kevin shares, hunger doesn’t stay at school. When children go home without enough to eat, it affects everything. This program helps fill that gap with dignity and care. Visit www.southshorefoodbank.org to explore more stories under “Resources,” and stay tuned as we continue to share the voices behind the work. #SouthShoreFoodBank #TheShelfLife #BackpackProgram #FoodSecurity #CommunityInAction #HungerRelief #SouthShoreStrong #MetacometStudio
Beyond being a facility, the Bread of Life food pantry is a vital community resource. Its volunteers commit their time and energy daily to help ensure no one goes hungry, providing not just food but support and building meaningful relationships. Their efforts foster trust, unity, and a more caring community. #foodpantry #breadoflife #newsalem
Earlier this month, members of our Supervision, Regulation, and Credit (SRC) department spent a day sorting and packing food for those in our community experiencing food insecurity. We are thankful to @secondharvestheartland for welcoming our employees and for the meaningful work they do year-round.
Take a first look at The Shelf Life, a new storytelling series we’ve been creating together with Metacomet Studio to shine a light on our programs and the people who power our mission. Before the full podcast series launches, visit www.southshorefoodbank.org to explore our growing collection of videos that introduce the faces and stories behind our work. You’ll find them under “Resources.” Today, we’re sharing a clip featuring Kevin Donovan, Board Member and longtime community partner, as he talks about the Backpack Program — and how it’s helping ensure students have reliable access to food after school and on weekends. These stories remind us that every action, no matter how small, can spark lasting change. Stay tuned for more on The Shelf Life. #SouthShoreFoodBank #TheShelfLife #EndHunger #CommunityInAction #FoodSecurity #BackpackProgram #HungerRelief #NonprofitStories #CommunityPartners #MetacometStudio
Today, @Humana sponsored a full day of meals with Second Helpings. 💚 That means they helped cover the full cost of providing a day of meals to our community, and Jenna and a number of her teammates even joined us to volunteer by wrapping sandwiches. She shared that she loves volunteering with Second Helpings because the work goes immediately out into the community, and that’s exactly what makes this support so meaningful. Want to make an immediate impact, too? You or the company you work for can sponsor a day of meals. Just email [email protected] for info! #SecondHelpings #DayOfMeals #Volunteer #CorporateSupport #FightHungerFromAllAngles #CommunityImpact
Wow! What an operation! Major Elijah Kahn, General Secretary, The Salvation Army Massachusetts Division, had the chance to tour the Greater Boston Food Bank with COO Cheryl Schondek. Seeing firsthand how much food moves through their facility before it reaches food pantries like many of ours is impressive! We are so appreciative of our longstanding partnership with the Greater Boston Food Bank. Together we are feeding our neighbors in need. #endhunger #endhungernow
