Ever humbled by the vastness of our world, I find myself awakened and reminded of the truth that we are not separate from nature but an inseparable part of it—both transient and timeless, explorers and the explored.
Pushing off from a shore none have ever pushed off from before, I paddled off on to waters that lay waiting to be explored and known. Overlooked and perhaps under appreciated due to the lofty summits that are the calling for so many, climbers for countless years have to ascended these rugged rocky slopes past these lofty waters not knowing that this lake has no equal in elevation in all of Africa.
And while the purpose of my return here was to conduct research on the high altitude lakes on Mount Kenya, including Harris Tarn on this cold and cloudy morning, such journeys always end up leading to a further exploration of myself as well and a reexamination of my journey and evolution of how I have changed the way I seek to experience the outdoors.
While my instruments in my kayak helped me map the depth of the waters I am on, this expedition further deepened my love of seeking new ways to explore these high altitude realms while expanding our understanding of them.
