Exploring the giant sequoias in Sequoia & Kings Canyon National Parks, California, completely changes your sense of time. 🌲 Some of these trees have been standing for thousands of years. My entire lifetime would barely register in their story. This tree is about 1350 years old (which means it was planted before the Viking ages). Some sequoias even grow to be 2,000-3,000 years old making them one of the oldest living species ever known! A seed small enough to balance on your fingertip can grow into one of the largest/oldest things on the planet. #didyouknow #sequoianationalpark🌲 #califonia #sequoia #travel

The park is home to the largest trees in the world, the giant sequoias with General Sherman Tree holding the record for being the largest tree in the world! The trees are present throughout the park but for the best immersive experience, definitely do the Congress trail 🙌🏻 🐻 Along with the majestic Sequoias, there are massive canyons, waterfalls and a thriving wildlife including bears. And the best part? Welcome to Mariposa Grove of Giant Sequoias 🌲 Home to more than 500 mature giant sequoias, Mariposa Grove is the largest grove of giant sequoias in Yosemite National Park. Some of these trees have been growing here for more than 2,000 years, making a walk through the grove feel like stepping into another era. One of the most incredible trees here is the Grizzly Giant, estimated to be around 3,000 years old. It stands roughly 209 feet tall, with a massive trunk more than 30 feet in circumference at the base. Its enormous lower branches alone are larger than many full-sized trees. 🌲 Another iconic tree is the California Tunnel Tree. In 1895, a tunnel was cut through the living sequoia to allow horse-drawn stagecoaches to pass through. What’s incredible is that the tree is still alive today. Despite having a large section of its trunk removed, it survived and continues to grow - an incredible example of the resilience of giant sequoias. 🌲 And these are only two of the many remarkable giants here. The grove is also home to the Bachelor and Three Graves, Faithful Couple, Clothespin Tree, Mariposa Tree, Telescope Tree, Fallen Monarch, and many other ancient sequoias.
