SCREEN PRINT WITH ME:)! Screen printing does NOT take all this fancy equipment to get started at home! Here is a simple break down below of how to screen print below! How to Screen Print at Home 1. Gather materials: silkscreen, emulsion, squeegee, scraper, water-based acrylic ink, spatula, transparency print of your design,UV light, heat gun, temp gun! 2. Prepare the screen: Apply emulsion with the scraper and let it dry in a the dark. I like to put it in a cabinet and let a fan blow on it so it dries in a few hours. You do not need to let it sit for 24 hours when using a fan if it’s dry it’s dry. 3. Create the design: Print your design onto transparency paper. You’ll need some see-through paper which you will then burn that design onto your screen that you applied the emotion to. 4. Burn the design onto the screen: Use the UV light to expose the screen and transfer your design. When using a UV light, it should take about 5 to 10 minutes to burn your screen effectively but double check the UV light directions and the emulsion you are using. 5. Set up your workspace: you can then wash out your screen in the sink with room temperature. Water in your design will fall through while the emulsion around your design will stay intact after letting your screen dry now make sure to tape around the edges so ink doesn’t go through along the sides and now you have a screen that is ready to start printing with .Lay your garment flat. 6. Apply the ink: Scoop ink onto the screen with a spatula and use the squeegee to push it through onto your garment. Make sure you’re pressing firmly and evenly a few times across your design. 7. Repeat for more prints and dry garments with your heat gun not too close and not too far away making sure you’re hitting at least 275° for the ink to cure properly. This is for water-based ink, but check your ink to make sure. Ready to get started?
