Behind the scenes of something exciting coming to Chelmsford.
We spent the day with the team at @chelmsfordforyou and Essex Police getting everything ready ahead of the ShopSafe Alert platform and radio launch later this month. And it's shaping up to be a big one!
We’re with @merseysidepolice this week to learn about its hotspot policing initiative and all the ways it’s working to create safer communities and tackle crime across the region. 🏙️
Today, we’re finding out how 29 hotspots have been identified and joining officers on a foot patrol in one of these key areas.
In tomorrow’s final video in the series, we’ll find out the impact the hotspot policing initiative is having on local communities.

Almost every day, I hear from you about the poor state of the telecommunications right across Lyne. From failing landlines mobile blackspots and patchy internet, these issues affect how people run their businesses, stay connected with family and access important services including in an emergency.
In Parliament, I spoke about the proposed Universal Outdoor Mobile Obligation (UOMO) Bill, which is intended to modernise outdated telecommunications protections. While updating the system is necessary, the Bill as it stands raises serious concerns about whether it will deliver outdoor mobile coverage that would keep regional Australia connected.
That’s why I believe it must be carefully scrutinised by a Parliamentary Senate Committee, so that any changes this bill makes to the Universal Service Obligation genuinely improves connectivity for communities like ours.
Do you get good phone signal in your village?
Around 40% of our constituency is rural, and the difference in connectivity is stark. Nearly half of rural deprived areas are not classed as 5G hotspots, compared with just 2.7% of urban deprived communities. Only 20% of rural masts have 5G, compared with 48% in urban areas. It's understandable that rural communities are feeling left behind.
I was proud to support Church Eaton Parish Council to finally get their mast switched on and secure reliable signal for residents. And I'll continue campaigning on this - if your village is struggling with mobile signal, get in touch. I'm here to help you get connected!
It’s not just phones that will stop working after PSTN is switched off! Devices that rely on old phone lines will be affected too, including:
🚨 Security alarms
🔥 Fire alarms
🚪 Door entry systems
🏥 Some medical alarms
Make sure your equipment is ready and your business isn't left behind.

We’ve been with @merseysidepolice this week to get all the info on its hotspot policing initiative. 🏙️ 🚔
The force is increasing foot patrols in key areas and partnering with community groups and local businesses to create free sessions that engage young people.
Jay is with Superintendent Phil Mullally to find out the results of the initiative so far and the continued impact it’s having in the city.
