Get more out of your lateral raises with these 3 cues ⬇️
1️⃣ Aim the working delt
Whichever part of the delt is pointing upward at the top of the rep is the portion getting the most emphasis.
Position your arm path so the lateral delt faces the ceiling.
Internal rotation — pinkies up
Think pinkies up as you lift.
This slight internal rotation helps bias the lateral delt instead of letting the anterior delt take over.
2️⃣ Don’t shrug
If you feel yourself creeping upward, lower the weight and control the rep.
3️⃣ Push hands out
Think of hands driving out toward the walls
Putting these together shifts more tension into the lateral delt, improves rep quality, and helps improve lateral delt muscle growth.
FORM CHECK OF THE WEEK: lateral raises 😅 As a coach, this is definitely an exercise I see people in the gym needing a little help with! So here are my tips 👇🏼

❌ standing straight up with straight arms
✅ slight lean to the hips, can kickstand one food for balance and slight bend to the elbows
❌ shrugging shoulders engages traps
✅ create distance between shoulders and ears!
❌lifting arms up by the wrist and just thinking UP
✅ foam roll analogy, lead with elbow and punch OUT and UP!
❌going too heavy and that causing you to sway
✅ focus on CONTROL and if anything add more reps (reps to failure from 8-30 can grow muscle!)
NOTE on the progressive overload portion (last part of video) I did work my way up to 8 reps at 20 lbs for lateral raises. It took me 5 years… so that is what I mean by focusing more on reps, pauses, pulses, and tempo when trying to get stronger at this exercise throughout a program! It is not like a barbell back squat where every week you may be able to add 2.5-5 lbs!
❌no control
✅ use tempo! 2 seconds up, 2 second hold, 1 second lower for example!
HOPE THIS HELPS 💞

Just a few of my favorite ways to hit the front delts (anterior) when all you have are dumbbells.
A few thoughts...
→ Simple movements that can be performed with confidence and intensity will be the most powerful ways to see strength and muscle improvements.
→ Those with Dumbbells only, working out at home, can build just as much muscle sticking to the basics and pushing to increase intensity and weight over time. Is it fun having a lot of different alternatives with pulleys and machines? ya, i'm not going to lie. But we can still do great things with the dumbbells and the basics.

🏠 I'll show you how to train smart, use all sorts of different training techniques and different ways to progress with home only training programs on my app! I also have home alternatives for all of my training programs, so if you lift both at home and at the gym, or have a more robust gym at home, these plans will work great for you :)

Are you still doing bent over rows with 2 dumbbells!?
Here are the common mistakes I see!
* Standing too upright
* Lower back rounding or getting fatigued
* Using momentum to pull the weight
* Shoulders shrugging instead of pulling through the back
If you can’t maintain a strong hinge with 2 dumbbells…
Try this instead:Single-arm dumbbell row with one hand on a bench.
Why?!:
* Bench support takes stress off the lower back
* Easier to keep a neutral spine
* Allows you to focus on driving the elbow back and engaging the lats
* Often leads to better mind-muscle connection
What do you think!?

Lateral Raise Edition
You want sculpted, defined shoulders?
Then stop swinging weights around like you're trying to fly.
Here’s what’s wrong with how most women over 40 do lateral raises:
🔸 Too heavy = trap takeover
You think going heavier builds more muscle — but your traps and neck are doing the work while your shoulders barely fire.
🔸 Leaning back or using momentum = ZERO control
That momentum doesn’t build muscle. It builds injuries and wasted time.
🔸 Thumbs too high = rotator cuff strain
Small shift, BIG pain. The angle of your hand changes the recruitment pattern and the stress on your joint.
✅ Here’s the fix (shown in the video):
• Soft knees
• Dumbbells slightly in front of you, not straight out to the side
• Elbows lead the movement, hands below elbow height
• Raise only to shoulder level, no higher unless advanced
• Slight pause at the top, slow on the way down
This is how you actually build capped shoulders — not bulk, not bulk traps — that add shape to your arms and strength to your posture.

Here’s a simple trick to get way more out of this exercise:
Do 3 sets of lateral raises.
But on your last set once you can’t get another rep
Grab the lighter pair of dumbbells immediately and keep going until your flapping your arms like penguins with partial reps
You’ll be able to push the delts past that first wall of fatigue and get those extra reps that will help shape those nice shoulders 💗😍
If you want toned arms, sculpted shoulders, and a stronger upper body, you can’t skip movements like this.
This combo hits:
✔️Shoulders
✔️Arms
✔️Upper back
All with just dumbbells at home. Simple doesn’t mean easy, this one will BURN! 🔥
Try 8-10 reps for 3-4 rounds and let us know how it feels 💪🏽
No GYM, No EXCUSES, just CONSISTENCY.

‼️The lateral delt exercise that actually works —
〔 𝗦𝗧𝗘𝗔𝗟 𝗧𝗛𝗜𝗦 〕
before your next shoulder day.‼️
Most women are doing lateral raises with straight arms and heavy weights and wondering why their shoulders still look flat.
Here’s the fix. Two cues. That’s it.
💪 Exercise: Dumbbell lateral raise — 90° elbow variation
📌 Sets: 3 × 15 reps
⚖️ Weight: Light — 5 to 12 lbs
⏱ Tempo: Controlled up, 3 seconds down
The two cues that change everything:
🔑 Elbows at 90 degrees — bending your elbows shortens the lever which removes all the momentum and cheating. Your lateral delt has nowhere to hide. It has to work.
🔑 Chin up the entire time — this is the one nobody talks about. The second your chin drops your traps jump in and take over. Chin stays up, traps stay out, lateral delts stay fired.
Go lighter than you think you need to. Feel the muscle working. Stop chasing the weight number.
6 weeks of this done correctly and your shoulders will look completely different.
This is the exact kind of detail that separates women who see results from women who stay stuck — and it’s what I build into every training plan for my clients over 30.
Save this for your next shoulder session. 🙌

Lateral raises look simple… but they’re one of the most exercises I see performed wrong in the gym 😅
Here’s what to focus on 👇
✨ Keep your shoulders down
✨ Slight lean forward
✨ Soft bend in the elbows the whole time
✨ Think leading with your elbows, not your hands
✨ Raise to about shoulder height
✨ Pause and hold at the top for a second
✨ Lower the weights nice and slow
Biggest rule… no momentum!!!! If the weights are swinging, the weight is too heavy.
If you are still unsure, send me a video of your technique and follow for more tips 🤍
