what to expect this Thursday on Bali’s silent day of Nyepi ✨🙏🏽 @thebaliexpert
Nyepi is a day of reflection and meditation for the Balinese Hindus, marked by a break from all forms of celebration. The observances include:
• No Traffic (Amati Lelungan)
• No Fire/Light (Amati Geni)
• No Work (Amati Karya)
The day before Nyepi, called Pengerupukan Day, will feature the Ogoh-Ogoh Parade. Ogoh-Ogoh are large effigies representing negative forces, evil spirits, or anything harmful to human life. The parade is held to expel these negative elements from the earth to ensure peace during Silent Day.
On Wednesday, March 18th 2026 (Pengerupukan Day):
• The Ogoh-Ogoh parade will begin at 4:00 PM, and all roads across Bali will be blocked. If you plan to travel, please ensure you return to your hotel before 4:00 PM.
• If you wish to stay indoors on Silent Day, please make sure to prepare your necessities such as food and essentials on March 17th or March 18th before 4:00 PM, as all shops will close early.
On Thursday, March 19th 2026 (Silent Day):
• The Silent Day will begin at 01:00 AM on March 19th 2026 and last for the following 24 hours.
• All roads and shops across Bali will be closed.
• There will be no internet connection or television available throughout the island.
• Guests must remain indoors, refraining from making noise or turning on lights for the full 24 hours.
• There will be no traffic across the island.
• Ngurah Rai Airport will be closed on March 19th 2026, with no arrivals or departures. All connecting airports worldwide have been informed in advance.
• Activities are permitted only in case of emergencies.
• Pecalang, or customary police, will patrol areas to ensure adherence to these regulations.
Normal operations will resume on March 20th 2026, starting at 6:00 AM.

Is Bali’s largest purification ritual in the Balinese Hindu calendar. Performed 3 days before Nyepi “Silent Day” massive crowds march and gather to the ocean where they cleanse themselves, the earth and the universe of all sin. This is one of the most significant purification processes to remind them how important it is to have a clean soul and to live in a world free from daily threats and bad influences.
🙏🏼🇮🇩
What an incredible sight to see and be a part of ✨

Buying food before Silent Day is not for the weak 😭✌️
This is your sign, your warning, and your reality check: this is your one-hour cashier line if you wait until the last minute.
Everyone suddenly has the same idea: stock up and get “just a few things,” and somehow the entire island ends up in one supermarket aisle at the same time.
So yes, be smart. Shop early and don’t underestimate the snack situation. Because once you’re in that cashier line, there’s no turning back.
Silent Day prep is officially on.

After Nyepi — experience a Balinese purification ritual in nature ✨
The day after Nyepi / Silent Day, many locals begin a new cycle with melukat — a traditional purification ritual/ melukat to cleanse the body, mind, and spirit. It’s a meaningful moment to reset, reflect, and start fresh after the island’s day of silence.
One of the most peaceful places to experience this is Griya Beji Waterfall. Surrounded by lush jungle and flowing natural springs, this hidden spot offers a calm and authentic setting away from crowds. The ritual is guided with respect to local traditions, using holy water believed to bring balance and positive energy.
✨ Visiting after Nyepi gives a deeper cultural connection — not just seeing Bali, but truly experiencing its spiritual side.
With Beyond Bali Tours, we arrange the right timing, local guidance, and private transport so you can experience melukat comfortably and respectfully.
