Likely no 😂 come hang with me on there @thecrankytherapist! Where my fellow anxious therapists at 🙋🏻‍♀️ Experiencing ghosting as a therapist can be extraordinarily challenging and hurtful! And, though I've stopped taking it nearly as personally as I did earlier in my career, I can still fall into the spiral of "what did I do wrong, what could I have done better, what's wrong with me?" etc. I know I'm not alone in this, and I also know it can be a tough cyclone of shit to crawl away from. If a client *does* ghost (I define this as a client not showing up for scheduled appointments, not responding to follow up phone calls or emails, and not initiating any further sessions or contact), I take time to reflect. I consult with colleagues. I request feedback in follow up emails and hope the ghosting client will share with me. If they don't - which is their choice! - I try to move forward and identify some action steps for how I can avoid ruminating and do more and better as a therapist and in my practice. If you are a client and considering ghosting - that is absolutely your prerogative. Admittedly, I have ghosted therapists. In those situations, I did so because it did not feel safe to offer feedback and I didn't trust the relationship or dynamic. This may be the case for you, too. In retrospect, I wish I had named my urges to ghost, though recognize that I wasn't in that space at the time. Either way, I value your autonomy and your ability to make decisions for yourself, ghosting or otherwise.
