So basically they found a mathematical expression that describes the motion of the water in the cup. But this is not yet an officially accepted solution. The Clay Mathematics Institute requires the proof to appear in a qualifying publication, withstand at least two years of scrutiny, and gain broad acceptance from the global mathematics community.
