It all started Christmas morning, when Kensington Kotuby opened a gift not immediately easy to figure out. There was a ring about 8 inches across. And a round, wheel-looking thing connected to it. It wasn’t on her wish list. “For a second, I was confused,’’ she says. What it was, was a Skip-It, an updated toy with origins in the 1960s, back when people of a certain age called it a Footsie. Well, that immediate “what is it?” vibe quickly turned into a deep love of the outdoor activity, and the 10-year-old soon just couldn’t put it away. To the point she’s now a Skip-It world-record holder. But the real competition was the counter on the ball. Everyone was trying to beat their last score or show off the biggest number they could rack up before messing up.
