When you look at a slate roof, each slate doesn’t just overlap the one below, it also overlaps the one two courses below. That double overlap is known in the trade as the headlap. It’s the section of slate that’s hidden beneath two others, forming the watertight barrier that keeps rain from driving under the roof covering. The headlap ensures that water always runs safely down and off the slates, even under wind pressure or capillary action. If the headlap is too small, wind-driven rain can blow up beneath the slates and penetrate the roof, especially on low-pitched roofs or in exposed locations. For this reason, roofing standards specify a minimum headlap, which varies depending on pitch, exposure, and slate size. The lower the pitch or the more severe the exposure, the greater the headlap required, typically increasing from about 50 mm on steep, sheltered roofs to 100 mm or more on shallow or exposed ones. In short, the headlap is the hidden working part of the slate, critical for keeping a roof watertight, and its correct size is essential for durability and performance in all weather conditions. #Roofing #SlateRoof #Headlap #stone #expert #survey #architecture #slating #slate #installation #doubleoverlap #construction #building

This is how I start my slating from the eaves using a verge trim instead of doubles. It’s not the only way. It’s just the way I’ve found works for me over the years If you’re a labourer, apprentice, or just starting out: 👉 Watch 👉 Learn 👉 Try things 👉 Make mistakes 👉 Improve Finding fault is easy. Learning is harder but it’s worth it. Roofing isn’t about being perfect. It’s about getting better every job 💪 #rooferlife #roofinguk #apprenticeroofer #slating #constructionlife

Keep your childhood alive😎 (do not read below) Wake up Mr. Dixon. The teacher said as I was dozing in and out of sleep at my desk. The night before we was at the rink. It’s something about when you in that rink no matter what problems you had it seemed like during that time they all were put on pause. You would go around that rink speeding on the wheels with no speed limit. The old school music was playing… and you stayed on the outter circle because you was in the fast lane… Growing up in Atlanta remember the Sundays where would go to Cascade & skate till late at night then go to Waffle House after not going to sleep until 4 am and waking up for school at 7 am. We was just young highschool students. Do we regret it? Never When we look back make sure we don’t get to old to never do youthful things Stay young P.S. To everyone who came out we was vibin. Appreciate you all and be on the lookout for the next one. As always stay groovy 90’s Roll Bounce Vibez😜 #lifestyle #nostalgic #memories #slating #rollerskates
