SAVE THIS‼️ We tried the viral -86℃ coffee in @slowboat_, and here’s what we think! ❄️ So China has this viral drink that’s dubbed the “-86℃ coffee” because of how cold it is. Basically, they use this special fridge to blast freeze glass jars, add milk and coffee into it and serve. The trend has reached Singapore, with Slow Boat being the first cafe that offers it during the weekends. There’s only 100 cups everyday, and they start selling from 11am onwards. Priced at $10 and $14, there’s three flavours to choose from — original, chocolate, and Baileys. I came at 10.50am, thinking I can beat the queue, but goddamn, I was still number 29 in line. So you have to take the queue docket, and it took me about an hour to finally reach the front. 🙃 They use their own in-house distilled milk, which gives it a sweeter finish. The espresso is also unique to the drink, although I can’t remember what they used. The coffee was supposed to have this “milk foam” due to the icy cold temperature, but I didn’t get any of that. Maybe I took too long before consuming it, as they did recommend having it within 40 seconds (which I did not, obviously). 😂 Ngl I was prepared to be disappointed, but the coffee turned out to be pretty good! It’s silky and creamy, kinda between an iced latte and a milkshake. You get to keep the mason jar once you’re done with it, so I guess that’s a bonus? I personally like it, but having to queue an hour and pay $10 for this is criminal. Safe to say, I won’t have this again if I need to wait that long for it. 🙃 Oh, this drink is only available for walk-in customers, so you can’t reserve a seat and get this drink. Don’t try to game the system, doesn’t work. Heading into Laos I was excited to go somewhere a little less travelled than Thailand 🇹🇭 & thought It would be a good opportunity to meet like minded travellers and oh god I was mistaken. Now I'm almost certain there were some fantastic people on the boat however what was clear was the people who were being disrespectful towards the locals & people working on the boat. That being said the views from the boat were stunning and I think it once upon a time it would have been exactly as I imagined. Now I may have been unlucky and the atmosphere on average may be better that what I experienced but from my personal experience It's not something I could reccomend if you're backpacking around Southeast Asia. It's possible to rent a private slow boat however I imagine this wouldn't be budget friendly but alternatively you can get a bus or fly to Luang Prabang. 18 hours later… ⚓️ We decided to take the 2-day slow boat from Thailand to Laos… and it was an experience! With 8 hours on the boat on day 1 and 10 hours on day 2, it was exactly as described… slow. ⏰ With a 4:30am alarm on day 1 in Chiang Rai, we eventually arrived at our accommodation in Luang Prabang at 7:00pm the following evening 🏞️ The views en route were incredible, and it was a great experience… but were we to do it again, we would probably upgrade slightly, to avoid the boat with repurposed coach seats, which left you with less legroom than the average economy flight! ______________________________ Hi, we’re Anna & Mike 👋🏼 Ready for adventure?
