Sometimes we overcomplicate the mix. š Here are 5 foundational rules to keep your church sound clean and consistent:
1. Gain First: If the input level is wrong, every other process fights you.
2. High-Pass: Clear the mud! Only specific instruments need those sub frequencies.
3. Vocals Up: If they canāt hear the leader, they canāt follow.
4. Gentle Compression: Control the dynamics, but donāt squash the life out of the worship.
5. Practice Smart: Experiment during rehearsal, not during the sermon!

āŖļøYouāre mixing live, but in your head youāre still second-guessing every level.
Youāre constantly thinkingā¦ what if the mic drops out right in the middle of a speech?
āŖļøThen you walk into a new venue and have to figure out the acoustics on the spot,,,no time to fully test, no room for mistakes.
āŖļøSetup time comes and suddenly there are last-minute equipment issues, a cable not working, a signal acting up, something not connecting the way it should. And you still have to fix it fast before the event starts.
āŖļøDuring the event, youāre adjusting everything in real time, balancing voices, music, and instruments, while making sure nothing clips, nothing feeds back, and everything stays clean.
All thisā¦ while the audience and client expect perfect sound from start to finish like it just happens naturally.
The truth is, a lot goes on behind the scenes to make it look that easy.
Itās part of the job,,,but itās not always easy.

Mixer 101: How to Add Reverb
Most modern mixers already have built-in effects.
To add reverb, simply send the channel signal
to the internal FX processor using the FX knob.
Then choose your effect type ā
Hall, Room, or Plate reverb ā using the Program selector.
Raise the FX return fader,
send it to the main mix,
and your signal now has reverb.
Small adjustment.
Big difference in the mix.
