My Parenting isn’t gonna be picture-perfect, but The Lord helps me lead with grace even when the little storms come. Also does any one elses special needs child have a fav song/video your child calms down to? The backyardigans is Cairos 😭😭 #autismawareness #specialneeds #cairo 🧩💙
3 minutes later he said he was done talking to me but I’ll take it😂
3 years ago I genuinely got on my knees and surrendered the fact that I may never hear him speak, to the Lord.
Navigating motherhood with a special needs child means living in a constant state of surrender, yet hope— if you want to see your child truly thrive.
I felt like a total fraud talking about special needs parenting until I quickly realized that a lot of us feel like we don’t fit a certain label, with specific strengths, sensory sensitivities or required accommodations or support.
Or maybe it’s just me and I’m just trying to rip the band-aid off by sharing my journey with Harv because I know personally, a familiar face with a similar journey or struggles brings so much comfort in a world of unknowns.
I hope this brought a smile to your face and encouraged any mammas out there waiting on words from your kiddo… in case no one’s told you today, you’re an amazing mom🫶🏼

Not all autistic children look the same.
Not all signs are obvious.
And not all autism is loud.
Some children flap.
Some line things up.
Some speak.
Some don’t.
Some mask.
Some meltdown.
Autism is a spectrum and every child presents differently.
Early signs can be subtle.
And they deserve to be noticed.
The stereotype is outdated.
Understanding isn’t.

Trusting your child in the hands of any professional is terrifying. We did it once and it went horribly wrong. The guilt was immense so trusting someone new felt painful. But the team at Alder Hey were patient, understanding, transparent and keen to manage our expectations with optimism but realism too. They have worked with, and on, Harry for 18 years and created the face we all see and love today and I don’t have the words for how grateful I am. Today was our last visit. He transitions to adult care now. It’s time to move on but @alderhey will always have a very special place in my heart. Thank you to everyone who has ever supported us from surgeons to cups of tea! You’ve not just changed a face, but changed lives too xx

Today, my heart stopped for a second… and then it exploded.
My nonverbal 13-year-old son spoke an almost full sentence. 💙
If you’re the parent of a disabled child—or for us, disabled twins—you know this life is layered. It’s love and exhaustion. Hope and heartbreak. It’s celebrating milestones most people don’t even notice, while quietly grieving the ones you know you’ll never experience.
The conversations we imagined. The spontaneous “Hi mom” or “I love yous.” The ease we thought parenting would look like. The futures we had to let go of so we could fully embrace the children right in front of us.
There has been so much joy… and so much grief. Both can be true. Both exist in the same space.
So when these words came out of his mouth, time stopped. I wanted to cry, shout, jump up and down—but instead I stood still, afraid to interrupt the moment. Did I hear what I think he said? Because for us, words aren’t just words. They are years of therapy, patience, advocating, waiting, and believing. They are proof that even in silence, there has always been so much inside him.
Whether this happens again tomorrow or never again, this moment matters. It doesn’t erase the grief—but it softens it. And today, that was everything to hear my son talk to me.

Remember, every child who is born with less has the potential to become more.
Every child is destined to shine in their own time.
Every child can rise and make their life sublime.
No label and no limit can restrict their might,
Because within them lies an endless light!

This is what child abuse looks like.💔
Abusive head trauma of a 6-week-old baby named Waylon.
My Waylon.
My son.
My baby I had dreamed of for so long - and given birth to at 41 years old - just a few weeks before he was assaulted.
Broken ribs.
Multiple skull fractures.
Multiple bone fractures in the body.
Blood in the spine.
Innumerable retinal hemorrhages.
All caused by a person he should have been able to trust.
Someone WE should have been able to trust.
So what are the signs of child abuse in newborns and infants?
The biggest one? Bruising.
As child abuse experts teach,
“If they can’t cruise, they can’t bruise.”
If you see a bruise on a newborn or infant, report it.
As paramedics and first responders are trained, bruising is the clearest sign of child abuse when it comes to babies who can’t yet crawl.
In our case…
I missed it.
Friends missed it.
Family missed it.
Doctors missed it.
Until it was too late.
While Waylon survived the violent assault against him, 75% of his left brain was damaged and is now fluid…
and 50% of his right brain was damaged and is now fluid.
At 5 years old, he does not yet walk and does not het speak.
Waylon’s occipital lobe was damaged which leaves him blind because of cortical vision impairment caused by the severe damage.
He has cerebral palsy as a deprivation of oxygen from the assault…
and suffers brain-scrambling and body-shaking epileptic seizures - sometimes as much as 100 seizures a day because of the damage.
He will be challenged with developmental delays the rest of his life - which doctors predict will be drastically shortened as a result of the brain injury.
The child abuse.
As his mother who knows that this was wholly preventable,
It is heartbreaking…
And hard…
And maddening.
That’s why we have made it our mission to STOP child abuse by sharing our story & working nonstop to make sure that monsters who hurt children are never free to hurt again.
That’s why we do what we do because…
Waylon is who he is…
And teaches us how to use this pain for purpose every single day.
In honor of Child Abuse Prevention month, please share this reel & please consider donating what you can to @lovingwayfoundation to help our mission.

💙💙 Via @momentsofjoypodcast What is a special needs trust??
A special needs trust is a legal arrangement, typically set up by a parent or guardian. An SNT ensures that assets, often money or a life insuranc policy, are held in an account and used to support the child.
The funds belong to the trust, not your child, so they won't be factored into the child's government benefits eligibility. An SNT is intended to suppleme the child's government benefits.

Do ALL kids with disabilities need ongoing therapy? Not necessarily! But if my child will benefit from ongoing skill-building and/or maintenance of strength or skills, why would we stop?! We are the therapy clinic “regulars,” the “frequent flyers,” and maybe even the “lifers” over here - and there’s nothing wrong with that if it’s what my child needs to reach her fullest potential! ✨💪🤩💛
I’m so thankful to have found therapists that see my daughter for who she is, believe in her potential, and understand the ongoing value of working with her. 🤟
We have several…
One of them would be to create moments like this over and over and over! Not just for us, but across the world! So that EVERY ORPHAN… every child had the opportunity to be raised in a loving family!
Right now, an estimated 152 million children around the world have lost one or both parents.
Many aren’t true “orphans” by death alone — some were abandoned because of poverty, war, or disability. The latter was the reality for all 3 of our adopted girls!
Every single one is a child who deserves love, family, and belonging.
We have the ability to change this — through adoption, foster care, support for families in crisis, and refusing to look away.
Because every child deserves someone who says, “You’re worth it.”
This is the thing that stings the most. Fixing this massive issue is SOOOO POSSIBLE! The solution is not unknown! It’s not left to discover! It’s not a mystery.
It’s just people across the globe who would be willing to say YES! ♥️♥️
What would yours be? 👇
