3 SIMPLE STEPS FOR PERFECTION 👇
1. With your flash off, set your camera settings so the ambient light looks slightly darker than optimal.
2. Power your flash on, and start at ETTL 0. Take a photo of your hand to test the light.
3. Increase or decrease your flash power as needed.
It's that easy!
If the ambient light is very warm, add a CTO gel. Confused about CTO gels? Scroll down on my page to

Photography Tip - Use a speedlight to make your portraits pop!
Speedlights are especially useful if your main point of interest has their back against a sunset sky, or if external lighting is used behind the subject. The light cast across the subject creates a more balanced exposure, and can dramatically improve the overall aesthetic appeals of your subject!
A speedlight, also called a flashgun or hot shoe flash, is an add-on flash. It sits in the hot shoe slot at the top of the camera, but with a receiver and a transmitter, a speedlight functions like a strobe and can be used as an off camera flash. A speedlight is used to lift the shadows and reveal details on your subject if they are backlit, or can be bounced off surfaces such as a ceiling or a reflector panel to act as a fill light.

Testing the thermal output of a 1/1 flash burst. ⚡🔥
When a Speedlight fires at full power, it isn't just emitting visible light—it is releasing a massive wave of infrared energy. Black materials absorb nearly 100% of those photons, instantly converting them into pure thermal energy.
The Canon-platform flash didn't generate enough heat to compromise the material. The Nikon SB-900, however, is infamous for its aggressive energy output, instantly melting the plastic and vaporizing the surface. There is a reason Nikon had to engineer thermal cut-off sensors directly into these specific motherboards.
Never fire a flagship Speedlight at 1/1 directly against a modifier or subject without proper clearance.
🗣️ Have you ever melted a gel or a softbox by firing your flash too hot? Let me know below!
