Nobody warned me about this part of splitboarding… You climb for 5 hours. Most likely your not gonna reach your goal of the day cause the conditions doesn’t align… Then strap in… And the ride down is 10 minutes of pure « fuck yeah » And somehow? What’s the first thing you check before dropping into a backcountry line? 🏔️ For me there are 3 things I always run through before committing: 1️⃣ Avalanche terrain What’s the slope angle? Are there terrain traps below? Any recent slide activity? Powder fever is real, but the snowpack gets the final say. 2️⃣ My exit Before I drop, I already know where I’m riding to. Cliffs, choke points, safe zones… I want a clear plan from top to bottom. 3️⃣ My partners Are they in a safe spot and watching? One rider on the slope at a time so we can keep eyes on each other. It takes 10 seconds to check these things… but it can make all the difference. What’s something you always check before dropping?
