People don’t leave Spokane because they hate it. They leave because they weren’t fully prepared for what life here would actually feel like. After 7 years working this market, I’ve watched it play out the same way. People don’t regret Spokane. They regret how they chose it. When someone moves here and leaves a year or two later, it’s almost always one of these four things: 1️⃣ They picked the wrong area. South Hill, Kendall Yards, Liberty Lake, Nine Mile Falls, and Spokane Valley all have a different feel, pace, and commute. Where you land matters more than people realize. 2️⃣ They underestimated the winters. It’s not just cold — it reshapes the year. Snow on the ground most days from late November through March. Daylight runs short. Grey weeks stack up. 3️⃣ They never really built a life here. No favorite coffee spot. No Sunday walk at Manito or along the Centennial Trail. No Friday night rhythm in Kendall Yards or the Perry. 4️⃣ They moved for the house, not the lifestyle. More square footage doesn’t make up for a day-to-day that doesn’t actually fit who you are.
