In FILM 356, Animation Production, students created their own phenakistoscopes by drawing 12-frame loops onto templates. Such devices were hand-illustrated pre-cursors to cinema. We looked at historical examples of this device, invented in 1832 by Joseph Plateau and Simon von Stampfer, and learned how to make a seamless, looping, animated action. We’ve had two stop motion animation workshops so far with the University for the Creative Arts, and the creativity has been incredible. 🎬✨ The young people have worked so hard on their films - and they’re (rightly!) very proud of what they’ve made. An assignment for my motion graphics class where I had no more than 40 seconds to explain how the electoral college works. This was my first time really expanding on my basic motion skills with a lot more moving elements, and I’m really happy with how it turned out. Voiceover & graphics created by me, of course.
