Comment LINK for the brass tipping rail and spice bottles. The only thing I’m still waiting on for this kitchen is the tile backsplash. The company says 3 more weeks…🫠 #Niche #cottagecore #cottagekitchen #stonearch #englishcottage #womenwhodiy

Today we’re showcasing one of our favorite architectural details at our Lake Austin project, these custom stone arches. We had a curved steel lentil to support the weight of the arch, but we didn’t want that lentil to be visible. To achieve a clean, all-stone look, we notched each stone by hand and epoxied it to the underside of the lentil. That allowed us to completely conceal the steel while preserving the structural integrity of the arch. Everything above still rests directly on the lentil, ensuring the proper load-bearing support. But visually, it reads as a seamless, solid stone arch, one that mirrors the rest of the architecture and ties the whole space together. It’s one of those small details that you might not notice at first, but it makes all the difference. - — #LakeAustin #StoneArches #CustomHomeDesign #HomeRenovation #HomeBuilderLife #ArchitecturalDetails #StoneWork #MasonryLife #HomeConstruction #Craftsmanship #DreamHome #TexasHomes #LuxuryHome #OutdoorLiving #LakeLifeTexas #InteriorAndExteriorDesign #HouseGoals #RenovationInspiration #BuildItRight #DesignAndBuild #ArchedDoorway #CustomArchitecture #HomeDesigns #HomeInspo #NaturalStone #StoneArch #TimelessDesign #HiddenStructure #HomeImprovement #JenkinsCustomHomes

This week the Art of Stone class, led by Thea Alvin, rebuilt the stone wall at the entrance to our campus. We reused much of the river rock from the old wall, which was originally salvaged after the Hurricane Irene flooding in the Mad River Valley. It’s amazing to see the same stones take on so many beautiful forms - same as it ever was, and yet new each time. #stonework #stonearch #drystackstone #drylaid #campus #handsonclass #handsontraining #artofstone #designbuild #timelapse #beforeandafter #diy #reuse #stoneworkshop #thinkwithyourhands

Still in use more than 180 years after they were built, the Keystone Arch Bridges of western Massachusetts stand as enduring monuments to the skill of their creators. Boston had a problem in the late 1830s. The newly completed Erie Canal was drawing more and more trade to the ports of New York and New Jersey, where easy canal access made shipping to the growing interior United States much cheaper. The businessmen of Boston had to do something, or the city would continue to lose trade and economic development and Boston would dwindle. With the Berkshire Mountains standing between Boston and the rest of the U.S., a canal wasn’t an option. This led to consideration of another possibility: a railroad west. Most railroads at the time were short lines - this would be about 200 miles and used cutting edge design and technology that would also lead the way for westward railroad expansion across the USA. Today while part of the keystone arch system is in use other sections have been abandoned and are now part of an active hiking trail maintained by the Friends of the Keystone Arches, the trail is an approximately five-mile walk out and back following the Westfield River through the wooded mountains. The start of the trail allows easy views of the only “double arch” stone bridge, still in use. There are also several locations where the tracks are visible from the trail, which crosses both abandoned arches. While they may no longer carry heavy freight trains, these bridges still provide an opportunity for hikers and railfans to enjoy the scenery of the Berkshire Mountains and see one of the most important and influential pieces of railway history standing today. #trainspotter #keystonearchbridges #stonearch #stonebridge #train #trainspotting #railroad #1800s #modernmarvels #westernmass #chester #westernrailroad #boston #albany #railway #keystone #history #engineering #iconic #trains #trainstagram #choochoo #westfieldriver
