Strawberry season is just getting started, and we couldn’t be more excited 🍓
Out here, we grow our strawberries a little differently than you might be used to. First we use no plastic to cover the beds. Our berries are grown in living soil, under the open sky, soaking up real sun and real weather. We focus on building healthy ground first; because better soil means better flavor, better nutrition, and berries that actually taste like strawberries should.
We plant yarrow alongside our strawberries. Yarrow helps support soil health, attracts beneficial insects, and keeps the ecosystem in balance naturally. It’s all part of working with the land, not against it.
The season is just beginning, and the first berries are always something special. Come taste the difference for yourself 🍓
Still looking for the extremely expensive Japanese and Chinese strawberries?
I picked up 2 boxes of these from our local organic shop for a fraction of that price and it’s the juiciest, red, most fragrant strawberries I’ve ever bought!
FRUIT TREE HIGHLIGHT: The highlight of our favorite fruit tree series from our backyard orchard culture. The Panache fig is known for its sweet honey like flavor with hints of raspberry. The flesh has a thick consistency, with a yellow and green stripe on the skin, and it’s deliciously sweet.
Maturity Date - August to November

Today, we’re dreaming of warmer days and a bountiful Wild Strawberry (Fragaria virginiana) harvest 🌱🍓
🍓Happy National Strawberry Day 🍓
“Tree strawberries” are a fun and plentiful fruit this time of year in urban and suburban places. This one is outside of my bank. There’s a pink peppercorn tree across the street just outside the post office. Foraging while running errands! #wildfood #urbanforaging #treestrawberries @flora.fungi.adventures

Lightly washing your fruit makes them last longer, taste better, and look more vibrant.

Been waiting for this day for 5 years.
Fruiting happens exponentially so each year the harvest grows by a lot more then double year 3-4-5. One little avocado tree can hold hundreds of fruit.

Some people buy their fruit.
Others grow their own.
But there’s another way… foraging from local, communal fruit trees.
I feel grateful to know where so many of these trees are around the Bay, and I visit them often to enjoy whatever’s in season.
Some foraging fruit currently in season are:
- Figs
- Avocados
- Apples
- Feijoas
- Persimmons

5 Fun tings about this “fruit”
🍓 1. It’s Not Actually a Berry
Strawberries are aggregate fruits — and those tiny “seeds” are individual fruits called achenes.
When I learned this in 2019 I was mind. blown.
❤️ 2. It’s considered a Heart-Healing Fruit
Rich in anthocyanins (their red pigment), strawberries support cardiovascular health and reduce inflammation. When ripe and organic (without chemicals)
🌹 3. She’s a Symbol of Love
Their red color + heart shape made them a symbol of Venus and romance for centuries.
🌞 4. Most come from California Grown
California grows about 85–90% of U.S. strawberries thanks to its coastal sunshine and long growing season.
🧬 5. Born from a Hybrid
It it said that Modern strawberries came from crossing
Fragaria virginiana
+
Fragaria chiloensis
in the 1700s.

An early taste of spring, courtesy of our friends @harrysberries 🍓
Before the local growing season kicks off, we’re always thrilled to get these strawberries, which are truly in a league of their own.
Sweeter, juicier, and picked at peak ripeness, they’ve earned their cult status for a reason. They taste just like the strawberries you wish you could grow in your own backyard.
We bring them in at their absolute best, which also means supplies are limited with each order. Happy eating!
