A lot of people wait to be asked. They wait to be chosen for a project, a responsibility, a leadership role or an opportunity they want. And sometimes that moment never comes. One thing you realize later in your career is that if you don’t ask for opportunities, they often don’t happen. If there’s something you want to be doing at work and you know you can do it, say so. But don’t just say you want it. Come with a plan. ✔ Explain the value you can bring ✔ Show how you would approach it ✔ Make it easier for the person you’re asking to say yes Leaders and managers are busy. When someone steps forward with initiative and a thoughtful idea, it stands out. Waiting to be chosen can take a long time. Speaking up can change the trajectory of your career. One of the biggest myths about confidence is that confident people don’t experience moments where things go badly. They do. The difference is what they do next. Confidence isn’t built when everything goes well. It’s built in the moment after something goes wrong - when you decide whether that experience defines you or whether you try again. Most people think career growth is about improving skills. But what I see inside organizations is this: The people who advance aren’t just the most skilled… they’re the most regulated. They can handle pressure, navigate tension, and communicate clearly, even when things aren’t going smoothly. That’s not a personality trait. That’s a trained skill. (And it’s something I work on with teams and leaders.) Where do you see this showing up most in your workplace?
The fastest way to stall your career? Waiting for permission. 🛑 High-performers don’t ask for a to-do list; they bring the strategy and ask for alignment. This small shift in your vocabulary changes how your manager sees you—from someone who needs to be managed to someone who is ready to lead. 📈 Save these 4 swaps for your next 1:1. 💾 #CareerAdvice #LeadershipDevelopment #WorkSmarter #CorporateHacks #ProfessionalGrowth #OwnershipMindset
You’re not underperforming. You’re being evaluated on something you don’t see. Most people think work is simple: Do your job well → get recognised. But that’s not how decisions are made. It’s about perception. Positioning. Influence. It’s about what’s said about you when you’re not there. Because that’s where it happens. Not in the meeting. Not in the review. Before you even know. And if you don’t understand that… You keep losing without knowing why. By the time you realise, it’s already too late. Don’t wait. You do not fail interviews because you lack experience. Most of the time, you fail because you walk in unprepared and stressed. When that happens, your focus shifts away from what actually matters. The conversation. The connection. The way you communicate your value. A strong interview is not luck. It is preparation. It is knowing the questions that will come. Showing up early. Asking thoughtful questions. Taking notes. And leaving the conversation in a way that makes you memorable. When you prepare the right way, you walk in calm, confident, and ready to stand out. Too many times in interviews people say all the right things and we let it slide because it all sounds good but the moment we bring them on board everything changes. This is why you should always be seeking to disqualify as many candidates as possible. You want to find the reason reasons not to hire this person. So ask questions like what did you not like about your previous company? If they’re quick to point the finger and blame someone else they’re going to do exact same to you If you’d like a link for the ultimate interview guide comment LEAD #newmanager #leadershipdevelopment #leadershiptraining
