I'm back in my studio! As of today, Mark will have a support worker to take him to some of his appointments twice a week, which means that I can start dipping my toe back into my life/work as an artist. I don't know where to start, so I'm just listening to music, chatting with the dogs, my turtle and fish, and giving myself zero pressure to be productive. Xxxx
The right support can turn an ordinary day into something special. 💙 For Kirsten, that’s her support worker, Paulla. Whether they’re taking in some sunshine, running errands, or enjoying a coffee break, Paulla is there to support Kirsten and help her shape the day the way she wants. Because great support isn’t just about getting tasks ticked off the list, it’s about the moments that make each day better. 🐕‍🦺 👯 [Video description: The story follows Kirsten, a Hireup client, and her support worker, Paulla, as they stroll through a grassy park in the sunshine. They're laughing and playing with a golden Labrador service dog. One wears a blue workout outfit with long dark braids, the other a galaxy-patterned dress, mostly covered by the dog in her lap.]

What's the difference between a Social Worker and a Support Worker? Both play incredibly important roles, but they support people in different ways. While Support Workers are often involved in day-to-day practical support, Social Workers also work alongside individuals, families and services to navigate complex systems, strengthen relationships and advocate for meaningful change. This Disability Pride Month, we're celebrating the many people who work alongside people with disability to promote inclusion, uphold rights and support meaningful lives. 💜 #StudySocialWork #SocialWork #DisabilityPrideMonth #DisabilityInclusion #UQHealth #FutureSocialWorker #Advocacy

At 53, Debbie decided it was time to stop telling herself she was too old to study and finally take the leap. Working full-time as a support worker while balancing family commitments, she’d always been interested in foot health but never felt she had the opportunity to retrain. Online learning changed that, giving her the flexibility to study around work and home life. “It has greatly improved my confidence in myself. I did question whether I had the knowledge and the skills to start a fresh, but I didn’t need to worry.” Today, Debbie is preparing for a career change that will give her more flexibility. If you’re thinking about job switching, looking to change work, or exploring new career opportunities, Debbie’s story is a reminder that it’s never too late to start again. “I wish I had done it sooner.” Whether you’re considering a career change in your 40s, your 50s, or another major life event, don’t let self-doubt make the decision for you.  If you need some guidance, head to our bio to download our FREE career guide!
