These are often confused for switchblades in my pinning tutorials. It is instead, a giant grasshopper (Tropidacris dux).

With surprisingly bright wings and intricate patterns these are some of my favourites to bring to events. The butterflies and moths are more conventionally thought of as beautiful albeit not always in the realms of art or decor, but their beauty is self explanatory. So it's nice to see people surprise themselves with how lovely they find the grasshopper and other less popular insects. These, when I do occasionally have them framed up, always go home with the most surprising folks. Like little old ladies who have been escorting grandchildren around a gothic art market or the group of young mums with pushchairs who happened upon a street fair.
Over the past year I have switched to doing more in person events over online updates for my work, and a big part of that has been making connections with people. I love seeing someone approach my table with a sceptical look, only to go home with a piece to begin a collection after I've talked to them, explained my work, shown videos of the process and encouraged them to pick up and study the details of different species.
Nature is everything and I love connecting people with bits of it they wouldn't normally have seen. Do visit me at an event if you can, never am I quite in my element than at a table full of bugs.
