TACK vs GYBE:
Here are some sailing terms for you. These are related to switching positions into and away from wind. Tacking is when you are changing positions while moving the bow into the wind. Oppositely, gybing is when you are moving the bow downwind.

Just an extra information about tacking fast in chops waters, because of waves pushing you, you would lose momentum faster so fast tack is important, try to time the tack between the waves and to make sure that the next wave will push you to the new tack and not the old one.
