If you have leafhoppers, whitefly, or sharpshooters, then this is a very effective, non-chemical, organic gardening remedy. 🪳I use tanglefoot glue, brushed onto bright yellow, or green plastic cups. I then clip the cup to a stick using a clothespin, then I place in the garden among the crop I am needing to control. If using in a tree, (our lilac tree is pretty bad!) you can spear the cup with a skewer and hang with a string. 🐝 This does not attract pollinators! I have used this method many times and have never caught anything but the pests! If the infestation is overwhelming, then this method in conjunction with neem oil sprayed directly on leaves is super effective. Those pets that missed the sticky trap will eat the neem oil and die shortly. Neem oil is non toxic and completely safe to humans and pets. The Cranbrook region of British Columbia has been a favourite part of the world to get out and explore. My interest in the area is the local geology and fossil history that these rocks have to tell. I'm also drawn to the warm and welcoming locals who share a love for the land and palaeontological treasures that open a window to our ancient past. In particular, awesome possums like Chris New, Chris Jenkins, Don Askew and Guy Santucci — each of whom are a delight to collect with in their own right and have done so much to open up the palaeontological resources of the region and expand our understanding of the Cambrian. Cranbrook is the largest community in the region and is steeped in mining history and the opening of the west by the railway. It is also a stone's throw away from Fort Steele and the Lower Cambrian exposures of the Eager Formation. These fossil beds rival the slightly younger Burgess Shale fauna and while less varied, produce wonderful examples of olenellid trilobites and weird and wonderful arthropods nearly half a billion years old. The Lower Cambrian Eager Formation outcrops at a few localities close to Fort Steele, many known since the early 1920s, and up near Mount Grainger near the highway. Further east, the Upper Cambrian McKay Group near Tanglefoot Mountain is a palaeontological delight with fifteen known outcrops that have produced some of the best-preserved and varied trilobites in the province — many of them new species. The McKay Formation also includes Ordovician outcrops sprinkled in for good measure. Fancy a read?
