Which bake do you prefer? Let me know in the comment to be honest. They are both sweet and incredibly delicious. Unreal.🍠

I know this might look a bit 'gross' to some people in the U.S. lol, but are you brave enough to try it? #TKG #japanesebreakfast #japanesefood
Breakfast in rural Japan 🥣
A warm and calming Japanese breakfast always hits different 🤤
I wake up, open the curtains, and just sit there for a bit while I’m still half-awake lol.
One of my favorite little morning rituals is waiting for the sunlight to slowly come into the room 🥰
When the sun finally starts warming up the house, that’s basically my signal.
Alright… time to start cooking breakfast in my old Japanese house.
Today’s menu 🍽️
• Aged brown rice (jukusei genmai)
• Mirin-dried mackerel (a fish that’s butterflied, marinated in a sweet-savory sauce, then dried)
• Natto
• Onsen egg (soft-cooked Japanese hot spring egg)
• Miso soup with fried tofu, wakame seaweed, and shiitake mushrooms
Pretty much my ideal Japanese breakfast 🤤🤤🤤
Actually, I only started eating aged brown rice around the beginning of last year.
Before that I always ate white rice, like most people in Japan.
But then I tried this… and yeah, I completely fell in love with it lol 😂
It’s super chewy, full of flavor when you bite into it, and it has this gentle natural sweetness.
Also it keeps you full for a long time, which is kind of funny because I wasn’t even trying to diet… but I somehow lost a little weight 😳❤️
My absolute favorite way to eat it is with natto.
That combo is seriously elite lol.
When I cook at home, I usually focus on two things:
1. Seasoning things in a way that lets the natural flavor of the ingredients shine
2. Making sure I get enough protein in my meals
Simple Japanese home cooking like this is a big part of everyday life in rural Japan.
Traditional Japanese food (washoku), a quiet kitchen, simple ingredients, and cooking slowly in an old countryside house… that’s honestly my favorite kind of slow life.
Anyway — what about you guys?
Do you have anything you’re particular about when you cook?
Ingredients, nutrition, flavor, kitchen tools… anything! I’m curious 🙂
Hope everyone eats something delicious today and has a great day.
See you later!

If you have a Japanese husband, your breakfast is going to be like this. I’m genuinely surprised and moved to see how many people around the world love Natto as much as I do! It’s amazing to see it being loved globally. Also, I’m so happy you’re all interested in my Veggie Tsutsumi-yaki (vegetable wraps). It’s one of my favorite ways to enjoy pure, healthy flavors while keeping it lean. #japanesefood #japanesebreakfast #morningroutine
Have you ever tried this? 😘💕
This is Tamagoyaki, a Japanese-style rolled omelet.
Sweet, soft, and juicy.
It's a very common breakfast in Japan.
Would you try this?
Seasoned with ”mentsuyu” (soy sauce+ dashi)

Japanese egg and rice, or (as it’s called in Japan) Tamago Kake Gohan, is a go-to snack or dinner in our house at least twice a week. It’s of course easy, but it's also unctuous and delicious. In Japan, it’s an everyday snack: microwave rice, add egg, maybe some furikake—classic comfort food. I’ve put my own modern, western creator spin on it, because there’s just no way to do it wrong. (So go put your spin on it) 🍳🍚

INSANELY SOFT Tamagoyaki 🇯🇵🍳
This is tamagoyaki—Japan’s classic omelette.
Soft, slightly sweet, and made with kombu & bonito dashi… simple but incredibly comforting.
In Japan, we eat it for breakfast or pack it in bento boxes.
Have you ever tried tamagoyaki?

A Japanese breakfast that starts with my mom’s cooking 🇯🇵☀️🏠
Lately, my mom and I have been trading homemade food 🙂↕️🙂↕️
I bring her things like homemade bread or a Japanese-style pot-au-feu,
and she gives me dishes like kinpira gobo and simmered vegetables 🥰
Normally, my Japanese breakfast is very simple —
ichiju issai (one soup, one dish),
which is a classic way of eating in Japan.
But today… it turned into ichiju sansai 😳
(one soup, three dishes!)
Seeing so many small bowls on a tray
honestly made me so happy 🥹❤️
🌿 Today’s Japanese breakfast menu
🍚 Aged brown rice with natto (fermented soybeans)
🐟 Salt-grilled mackerel
🥔 Simmered taro root and lotus root
🥣 Kinpira gobo
🍲 Tofu and wakame miso soup
By the way, kinpira gobo is a traditional Japanese side dish.
It’s made with thinly sliced burdock root,
stir-fried and gently simmered in soy sauce, mirin, and a little sugar 🙂↕️🙂↕️🥢
Simple, savory-sweet, and so comforting.
Add lots of sesame seeds and the texture + aroma are just perfect, lol
I live in an old Japanese house,
so mornings like this feel extra special —
slow, quiet, and very washoku (traditional Japanese food) vibes.
What kind of food reminds you of home? 😳
Your mom’s, dad’s, grandma’s, or grandpa’s cooking — tell me!
I hope everyone gets to eat something good today,
stay healthy, and feel a little happier ❤️
See you soon 🙂
Because life is complicated,
breakfast should be simple.
