They came busting into the gym on Friday afternoon saying, “Ms. Jay how come you didn’t tell us you were famous on Instagram?!” And then the conversations that followed were the absolute best. ❤️ I told them how I started (my page got lots of traction when I set a goal to run 1000 miles while pregnant with Taylor). During that time maternity and baby brands would sent me free things. “Wait, Ms. Jay so you get PR packages?!” I do. Then I told them that after awhile I realized I could charge money for posts based on my follower count. “You get paid to post on Instagram?!” I do. “Ms, Jay you realize you could just do Instagram as your full time job right?!” I told them I could but it didn’t really provide me with the job security I wanted and plus I actually love my job as a PE teacher. “Seriously, Ms. Jay, you actually would rather spend your days dealing with kids and their bad attitudes than making money online?!” (This was coming from a kid that more often than not, had a bad attitude ;)) I told them, I really I would. I love my job and the chance to make a difference in kids lives. “Like, how do you make a difference Ms. Jay?” they asked, wanting to know. I then shared with them a really cool fact, “After their parents, a child’s elementary school PE teacher has the biggest chance to make an impact on a child’s self esteem.” I went on to tell the how important to me it is to make sure every student in my gym learns to appreciate their body for what it can do and not what it looks like. I make sure my activities are inclusive and really work hard to make sure that everyone in my class feels like they are capable, valuable, and that they belong here. In typical middle school fashion, they all shrugged their shoulders and were like, “that makes sense.” And then they told me that when someone asks them who their PE teacher is they are gonna respond with, “She’s a famous Instagram influencer- maybe you’ve heard of her…?” #peteacher #teacher #teachersofinstagram #teens #teacherlife
