California Least Terns migrate to San Diego every April, but their coastal habitats are at risk. Agencies and nonprofit work year-round to maintain nesting sites before the terns arrive in the spring. Last week, that meant placing oyster shells at the Batiquitos Lagoon in Carlsbad.
😎 Our typical day in the office 😉 #TeamRewild #POV 🪶 brought to you from Dog Island, Anguilla, as a flock of Sooty Terns fly over Mike Appleton (Re:wild Senior Advisor, Area Based Management) during his survey of the landscape. #RewildingTogether #RewildTheCaribbean #Rewild #POV
Pelicans and terns, mostly.
From the Arctic to #Antarctica!  Arctic terns make the longest migration of any animal on Earth, traveling tens of thousands of miles each year. Along the way, they feast on small fish and crustaceans—including krill, a tiny but mighty species at the heart of the ocean food web. 🦐🌊 Protect the krill. Protect the food web. Protect our ocean.  Also, I'm wearing very attractive overall gaiters, incase you were wondering, ha!
There's a shorebird hike this Friday 8-9:30 a.m. It's the perfect time to ask our resident Bird Nerd any and all questions. From oystercatchers to plovers to terns you'll learn all about birds that call the NC coast home and identify some feathered friends along the way. https://bit.ly/4dOPgkM
Experts have been sounding the alarm for years, the Peron Dunes buggy race held at the exact time of year that hooded plovers and fairy terns—both threatened species—are breeding, disrupts nesting and causes these threatened birds to abandon the site. The Minister should take the bare minimum action to reschedule the event outside of the breeding season. We look forward to a response on this question from folks in St Helen’s.

🏔️Dreaming of a different kind of summer. 🇮🇸Iceland, for those who embrace the road less traveled. 📍Seydisfjordur Remote villages, pristine waterways, tiny islands covered in eider ducks, Arctic terns, and other seabirds. These are just a few reasons why Iceland is best seen on a Windstar ship. We take you places most cruise ships can’t go💪 #Summer #summertravel #travelmore #exploreiceland
There’s “hangry” and then there’s Inca tern hangry. These shorebirds seem demanding around breakfast time and it shows! 🍴 Dont stress, the Inca terns are fed a delicious fish diet multiple times a day! 🐟🐟
We were so happy to return to the Bolsa Chica Ecological Reserve for the first time in several months. We crossed the bridge to the fenced off area and watched as the nesting Least Terns briefly took flight. The sight was truly breathtaking. #birds #birdphotography #wildlife #wildlifephotography #nature

#DYK that shorebirds undertake some of the farthest migrations in the bird world!? 🐦 The shorebird with the longest migration is the Arctic tern, traveling ~25,000 miles from their breeding grounds high in the Arctic all the way down to Antarctica! Although we don't have any Arctic terns in our care, we do have six rehabilitated shorebirds on exhibit: three common terns, one sanderling, one semipalmated sandpiper, and one piping plover. The oldest shorebird in our care is our 18-year-old common tern named Ike who has been living with us since 2006. Want to know more about shorebird migration? Check out the "Bird Migration Quiz" in our stories and let us know how you did! #WorldMigratoryBirdDay #BirdMigration #Shorebirds
