This might be a little controversial… but people ask me all the time how my girls are so close. And the truth is, a lot of it comes down to how we structure our time. We say no more than people probably expect us to. Not because activities are bad …. there are definitely seasons where the kids are involved in things they love. But as a general rhythm, we protect time at home. Time for sibling relationships. Time for boredom. Time for long conversations and shared routines. I’ve noticed something over the years: when everyone is constantly spread out in different directions, siblings end up living parallel lives. But when there’s space to be together … the little things start to happen. Inside jokes. Late night talks. Friendships forming between siblings. I’m not saying this is the only way to do things. Every family is different. But for us, protecting time at home together has been one of the biggest gifts. And I think it’s a big part of why my girls are so close. 🙏 #intentionalmotherhood #familyculture #raisingteens

No, a mom can’t be everything to 9 kids. And that’s actually a good thing. One of the biggest assumptions people make about large families is that a parent is supposed to be everything to their children. But families were never designed that way. When children grow up with siblings, they gain something parents simply cannot replicate: relationships inside the home. They gain companionship. Shared childhood memories. Inside jokes parents will never fully understand. Older siblings often grow into mentors. They teach a younger sibling to ride a bike. They help with reading or homework. They show a toddler how something works. They comfort someone when they fall. Younger siblings gain built-in encouragers and examples. Over time the home becomes more than a place people live. It becomes a small community. That said, there is no cookie-cutter version of family life. Some families have one child. Some have many. Every family has its own rhythms, challenges, and blessings. Instead of criticizing families for how their home looks, I think the better goal is this: Support families. Encourage parents. Help homes build the systems and culture that allow everyone inside them to thrive. Strong families aren’t accidental. They’re built with intention. I’m curious — what do you think siblings give each other that parents never could?
Imagine growing up never wondering if your siblings are your friends. Breakfast with your 14-year-old brother. Coloring mid-morning with your 10-year-old sister. Pre-lunch Legos with your 8-year-old brother. Lunch with all of them gathered around you, laughing and telling stories. Painting nails with your 12-year-old sister. Post-nap snuggles with your 16-year-old sister. Strong sibling relationships don’t happen accidentally in a world that constantly pulls families in different directions. They’re built. I’m not trying to raise impressive individual resumes. I’m trying to raise siblings who know each other deeply. Who prefer each other. Who stay connected long after the math books close and childhood ends. Family culture doesn’t form by default. It forms by design. Homeschooling six kids across different grade levels isn’t easy. Teaching algebra and the alphabet in the same morning isn’t easy. Rearranging routines to cheer at late-night games isn’t easy. But building a home where siblings are friends? That’s worth it. As a mom inching closer to launching my first, I can see the fruit of what we’ve been cultivating for years. And we wouldn’t trade a thing.
We spend less time trying to manage every little squabble… and more time pointing our kids to what we’re actually building. Because sibling relationships aren’t just about shared rooms or arguments over toys. They’re about the people who will walk through your whole life with you. The ones who show up in ordinary days… and the ones who stand beside you in the moments that matter most. There’s something bigger being formed here and we want our kids to see it. We believe it’s worth the continued effort. Do you long for your kids to have relationships that outlast the squabbles and pettiness? If you’re building your home with that in mind, you’ll feel at home here.
Their bond will outlive you, and I know that can be hard to sit with, mama. But sometimes when I watch my girls together, I’m reminded how special that really is. Raising sisters is something that’s hard to fully put into words. Because they’re not just growing up in the same house… they’re sharing a childhood. The memories, the inside jokes, the little moments that will stay with them long after these years pass. One day they’ll be the person the other calls when life feels overwhelming. The one who understands where they came from without needing an explanation. They’ll probably keep secrets from me, vent to each other, argue one minute and laugh the next. And through all of it, they’re building something that will quietly shape who they become. So I try to remind myself to protect that bond. Not compare them. Not place expectations on them to be the same. Just let them grow beside each other in their own way. Because as a mom raising two girls, getting to watch their sisterhood unfold might be one of the most beautiful things I’ll ever witness. And someday, when they’re grown, I hope they always know they have each other. Pull up a chair, mama. Your kids won’t magically become best friends as adults. You build that now. Family dinners. Shared chores. Inside jokes. Learning to forgive. Choosing “team” over competition. One day they won’t live in the same house… but they’ll still choose each other. And that’s the goal. 🤍 Parents raising siblings who will actually like each other someday.
Some people grow up being told siblings are supposed to compete. But sometimes they just become built-in teammates instead 🤍 Watching them choose to do things together is my favorite part of parenting. Were you close with your siblings growing up? Comment YES or NO. #siblings #familylife #parenting #childhoodmemories #familybond
The sibling cycle is real. 10 minutes ago: arguing over nothing. Now: laughing like best friends. Parenting teens and younger siblings means witnessing this daily. One minute it’s chaos… the next minute it’s this. Sibling cycle: fight → laugh → repeat. #momlife #momsofteens #siblingbond #raisingkids #parentingmoments siblings
