🗣"I do not want a Europe that depends on China for raw materials, on America for security, and on financial markets for every euro borrowed."
ECPP MEP @serban.dimitrie.sturdza highlights the EU’s growing dependence on foreign powers and calls for a self-sufficient, innovative Europe where all member states produce, innovate, and remain independent.

It was an honor to speak at the European Employment and Social Rights Forum 2026 in Brussels alongside EU leaders like Ursula von der Leyen, Roxana Mînzatu, and Mario Nava.
During the “Upskilling in the EU Neighbourhood” panel, I shared how JA Europe is closing the gap between education and the future of work. With European Commission support, we are empowering millions of young people through initiatives like EU Code Week, reaching 25 million students with vital digital literacy.
From our #Skills4Retail project under the Pact for Skills to our work with EMPASS, we are building the resilient pathways Europe needs to stay competitive and inclusive.
Thank you to my fellow speakers and partners for an inspiring discussion on building a Europe of skills where no young person is left behind.

Empowerment does not happen by accident.
It happens when we prepare people, protect them and invest in their future.

Where a country really runs 🇩🇪⚙️
A quick drive from Frankfurt to Kassel to attend a regional governance forum.
Nearly 2,000 people in the room with Germany’s Federal Chancellor @merzcdu and Hessian Minister-President @borisrhein.cdu.
But the real story wasn’t the stage.
It was the topics:
• public safety
• housing
• mobility
• business conditions
• education & childcare
Not glamorous.
Yet these are the operating systems of society.
Many investors watch Europe through headlines.
But stability — and opportunity — start where cities actually function.
Sometimes the future of an economy begins with something as simple as a kindergarten… or a housing policy.
The best way to understand a country?
Go where decisions are discussed. ✨

Participating in the EU Social Forum, organised by the European Commission, offered more than a moment of policy dialogue. It signalled that Europe may be entering a phase of conceptual recalibration regarding the relationship between economic competitiveness and social cohesion.
The discussions led by Ursula von der Leyen, Executive Vice-President Roxana Mînzatu, Enrico Letta, Vincent Kompany and Mario Nava converged around a central premise: Europe’s long-term competitiveness cannot be sustained without a strong social foundation.
For several years, my own work has evolved within civil society environments where integration, cultural participation and community engagement are not abstract policy concepts but lived socio-economic dynamics. Through initiatives such as Maison Culturelle Belgo-Albanaise / ShqipVille, we have explored how local civic ecosystems contribute to broader processes of social stability, participation and economic inclusion.
Over the past three years, we have also tested a practical framework that we call the Human Ecosystem approach. Through this model, our organisation works to deliver community services, listen closely to the concerns and aspirations of citizens, and translate these insights into dialogue with institutions capable of improving governance mechanisms.

Stronger democracy begins with active citizens. 🇪🇺
Our Civil Society Week welcomed around 1,000 participants over four days, once again highlighting the importance of dialogue and shared European values. During the plenary session, the European Commission acknowledged the key outcomes, emphasizing the role of education, civic participation, and enhanced media and digital literacy.
Key highlights from this year’s Civil Society Week:
🇪🇺 The first meeting of the Civil Society Platform’s steering group, strengthening structured collaboration between EU institutions and organized civil society
🇪🇺 The increasing importance of the European Citizens’ Initiative, empowering citizens to directly influence EU policymaking
🇪🇺 A strong call for improved citizenship education, greater social cohesion, better access to affordable housing, and a supportive environment for civil society
🇪🇺 The need to strengthen media and digital resilience, along with ensuring sufficient funding for civil society, volunteering, and the social economy
These outcomes will shape future recommendations and be shared with EU institutions, supporting ongoing efforts to build a more democratic, inclusive, and resilient European Union.
This week at the #BudapestBalkansForum organised by the @mki_hiia in Budapest, RCC Secretary General Amer Kapetanovic spoke about connectivity, competitiveness and more.

Direct democracy is one of the most promising antidotes against democratic decline.
This is why, together with Université Catholique de Lille and the Swiss Democracy Foundation, we created a new Chair in Comparative Direct Democracy.
This initiative brings together policymakers, civil society, and academia to strengthen democratic practice through research and collaboration. It aims to provide evidence-based insights, connect theory with real-world participation, and advance global understanding of direct democracy.
Join the launch event: 27 March 2026 from 12:00 to 16:00. Explore the research agenda, discover first findings from the Global State of Direct Democracy 2026 report, and take part in the conversation on the future of democracy.
